They are, and it is very bad for them. It contains lots of sodium, which can really tear them up. If you do slip up, just meats unsalted and veggies. NEVER GARLIC, ONION Or CHOCOLATE. Other than that, I spoil mine rotten too. Guilty.. Hey I can admit it! But really, try to stay away from salts and spices. They'll love ya for the meat though!!

Absolutely! Though most "people food" is well tolerated, the ones that are not will produce only minor problems in dogs, such as bloating and gas. Yet a few are actually toxic and can kill even the largest of dogs.
Some foods that dogs should NEVER eat are chocolate, onions, grapes and raisins, mushrooms and macadamia nuts.

If you are going to feed your dog people food then the safest ones would be:

Any "real" meat in small amounts (cured meats like hotdogs and lunchmeats don't count)
Some fish like sardines, mackeral and salmon (most fish are not all that healthy for dogs)
Cooked egg
Cooked veggies like potatoes (yams are best) and carrots

If you feed your dogs a good-quality dog food most of the time, and add people foods to the diet every so often, then your dogs should not have any problems. Just learn what to avoid and feed the okay foods in moderation.

Dogs - like people - can be allergic to almost anything, and there are some things like chocolate and pork fat - that you should never give a dog. If you are confortable feeding your dog scraps, then it should be fine. just watch out for any sickness or new behaivors. These could be signs that your dog is allergic to something. Also, many vets recommend bland diets of rice when a dog has stomach issues. - so, don't worry.

Dogs can be allergic to anything -- just like people can. Foods with MSG in them (like many Chinese foods), for example, should never be given to dogs. If you want to give your dog table-treats, make sure you only give him/her ONE type of table treat at a time, so if the dog does react badly, you'll know just what food to avoid in the future. (It's also a good idea to keep "Epi-pens" on hand in case of an allergic reaction. You vet can get these to you, and show you how to use them on your dog.)

Animals can have allergies just like humans and thier systems aren't made for food that has been cooked. I am guilty as well but this is what the vet has told me and the research I did at the time says the same. My mother's dog is allergic to a lot of things and breaks out because of it and my dog is allergic to soy beans and loses his hair when he runs through the fields. Just be careful.

Animals, like humans, can develop allergies to anything - food, clothes, chemicals, plants, even the damn air we breathe.

If you've found a particular food that your dog seems OK with - like lean meat, or a vegetable or something simple - stick to that if you MUST give him table scraps - and only infrequently (like twice a week) or he will get fat.

Good that you've considered this though. Bear in mind that in rare cases, allergies to things that have been fine for years can develop! If your dog is not showing any signs of allergy I wouldn't worry about this in particular - just stick to a small range of infrequent treats, don't keep introducing new things.

I'm not advocating the giving of table scraps to dogs! I'm just giving realistic advice on how to do it in moderation, for people who really can't restrain themselves!!

Yes! Be careful. My parents have fed their Bichon table food for years and now he has serious health problems due to the table foods. Our vet and breeder friend have always recommended same food all the time.

Yes, they can be allergic to people foods ( specially fried or salty ), just avoid things with seasonings like salt or too much fat or things with seeds ( like apples are OK as long as you take the seeds out ) !!! Garlic is usually OK tho & good for them !!!

Yes. My dog has to have a special dogfood because of all of her allergies. It is unfeasible for me to feed her a raw diet because of everything she is allergic to. Soy, wheat, corn, chicken, turkey, duck, pheasant, beef, bison, animal fat, animal by-products, and several different kinds of preservatives (which human foods can be loaded with).
