We recently moved the computer and modem into another room. The phone is still in the same place. Why does it do this? How can I get it to stop?

Well with DSL you usually need to dedicate a separate cord to the Modem, and one to the phone.

Go to Radio Shack or Walmart to the telephone's and get a connector that plugs into the wall socket and has two outlet connectors/plugs. It think it's called a "one to two jack".

Also purchase an additonal phone cord of appropriate length to run from the phone jack to either the phone or the modem.

Run one phone cord to the phone and the second phone cord to the modem. This should help you problem and is pretty standard setup with DSL.

Good Luck.

Because when the phone rings, it interrupts the signal your dial up modem is sending and recieving.

The best way to stop this is to disable call waiting in the dial-up options.

Unless this is a DSL modem you are talking about.

If it is DSL, then you probably need to contact your DSL provider.

You must have a filter fitted to your connection, this normally comes with the router or modem, you also need 1 for every telephone, fax, answering machine etc that i connected.

Are you using a different jack?

If you've added any extensions into the setup, then this may be the problem.

Are your filters functioning okay?

if you have a 2.4 ghz cordless phone, replace it with any other phone that doesn't run on 2.4 ghz..... They interfere with a lot of wireless routers. If you aren't using wireless then i am not sure......
