why? i mean if a person loves art or loves something so much and wants to put it on themselves to be there for all of time, whats the problem with that? I mean if you are an idoit and go out and get one without thinking I can complete agree that you should not have gotten tattoo but what about the people who think about and love tattoos yet still get harssed.
I mean Im 16 and someone came up to me and said i was stupid for getting a tattoo so young. First off im an artist so why should I not be fit wear the art I love, second i have been around tattoos all my life (both parents are tattooed up) and thrid i thought about what I was getting AND KNEW I WOULD NOT REGRET IT, where i was going to put it, and what it means for my furture, yet this person still thought it was THEIR business to tell me that I should not have gotten it. why do people who dont even have ink have such a problem with tattoos AND SEEM IN THEIR MINE FIT TO TELL OTHER PEOPLE WHY THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE IT OR GET IT?

I think 16 is a little young. But in your situation, you said it you thought about it and were sure.
I tell everybody that they need to think long and hard about it because it hurts more to remove it. And get something w/meaning to you as a person.
Part of the problem is that tatts became such a fad. How many girls do you know w/their silly little butterflys. Not very original.
But people can be narrow minded and love to stick their noses in other peoples business. You just need to ignore them or come up w/some witty comebacks that will embarass them & shut them up.

There are many reasons some oppose tattoos (body art) Some may because of religious beliefs (Leviticus 19:28). Some may think it doesnt give a professional image especially if its visible to others. Some may even think if you receive a tattoo at an early age your regrets may come later perhaps when you marry, when discouraging your child from fades such as tattoos and piercings or that weight gain may affect the look of the tattoo causing you to regret having gotten one. If you want a tattoo as it appears you do, its your body, if you're not hurting anyone, get it. I have a tattoo and i'm 44 yrs old. But i will say that if my daughter who is now 11 wants to get one, i would ask that she wait until she reached a suitable age, that she is getting one because she wants one and not doing so to follow the IN-Crowd and that she pays for it. Realize that you are young and you will get comments, suggestions, complaints for the rest of your life, ultimately its your decision on how to proceed.

Put the shoe on the other foot for those who have been raised that tattooing means you are cheap, have low self esteem, are unhireable, are unthinking etc.
My mom is from a generation where you just don't do that. I chose not to get a tattoo because it just never came up for me based on my mom's influence. However, my dad smoked, so I was a smoker for a while and at a very young age. It doesn't make it o.k., but I did it.
My friends have tattoos. So what? I think if there were no orinigality or differences in this world, it would be an awfully boring place, don't you think?
So, you will run across those people whom I call "moralists" they are the same people who cut you off in the fast lane to slow you down so that you can't get anywhere... "the moralists."
So, you have to live with it and forgive them. They know not what they do.
Good luck.

Your young so you are learning the lesson of not to worry about what other people think or you'll drive yourself crazy. Just say thanks and go about your way. This won't be the only area in your life where the lesson will come in handy. I wish I hadn't worried about what people thought so much when I was your age - always trying to fit. I'm 39 and I love the tattoos I have. And my husband loves them, so who cares about anyone else? When I'm 80 who cares what they look like? I'll look back on my life and be glad I was myself.
As far as the Bible stuff goes - I guess people assume everyone believes in the Bible so they think you need a reminder/lecture in this area. I don't believe in it and for those who like to bring it up, you need to realize you have the absolute opposite effect then you intend.
Stay true to yourself, whether is about tattoos or any other aspect of your life!

I had this issue myself last week when I decided to finally get a tattoo. And I had been privately considering it for quite some time. I just finally decided it was time and had decided what I wanted. I casually asked my best friend (girl) if she would go with me over IM since it was so late and didn't want to call....the next morning I saw her reply "I hate tattoos". That was her only response to me. This from my supposed best friend. I have not spoken to her since...its up to her to call me and apologize for being so closed minded and "uppity". I got the tattoo. I don't care what she thinks. I got a fairy on my foot, so something somewhat original...not many foot tats taht i've seen at least! Also people that are bring God into this... When we leave this earth to go to heaven (if you believe in it...) we leave our physical bodies behin, tattoos and all - it is our SOUL that goes to Heaven. It counts what is in the inside. Hate doesn't get you into heaven. This so called "christians" who brush aside those of us who have tattoos are the ones who need to seriously think about their relationships with god - do not be judgemental! Let God make the judgement - it's not your decision.

I hate to tell you this, but you may have come to the wrong place to ask this question and get a sympathetic viewpoint. We spend enough time trying to get the tattoo haters not to be so narrowminded at the best of times that I'm afraid your question probably had the effect of a red rag to a bull!
Good for you for feeling so strongly about your ink, though. I can tell you love it, and it's always nice to have people on here who feel that way.
Best wishes - and keep on showing your tattoos with your head held high!

I personally don't have and never will get any tattoos. However, I would never make it my business to tell you not to, or that you shouldn't have one.
The fact that you're 16 is probably a big factor in why some people feel they can say something to you about it, whether or not you ask their opinion. Don't be too upset, I'm sure whoever this is, meant only the best for you.

I love tattoos, but some of the ones I see are in bad taste. I think some people get them for the wrong reasons. If it is something you love and feel strongly enough to get it put on your body that is your choice, i respect that. If it is something you're going to regret in a few years or something you did on an impulse, usually they don't fit the person. To each his own.

I know how it is. Some people just really like to stick their noses in other people's business. It's so annoying! I mean, what right does a stranger have to tell you what you can and cannot do to your body? Ugh, drives me insane! I myself have no problems with tattoos, peircings, clothes, whatever. It's that person's life, not mine. I have my own stuff to worry about than to preach to someone I don't know about how they should look. It's unfortunate some people don't realize that you should treat others how you want to be treated. I'm sure if someone turned around and said to them "You need to lose weight" or "Don't you know how bad smoking is for you?", they would flip out. Why can't people just let people be people?

Well, they had no right to tell you not to get it, I suppose. Maybe they wanted to make sure you won't regret it. I thought it was against the law for under -18's to get a tattoo.
I hate tattoos, I think they are absolutely hideous. They're a fashion statement, there's nothing artistic about them (I don't agree with you there) - skin never looks better with black ink permanently marked.
And I suppose I think it looks tacky - common. The worst thing I have ever seen is a woman with her chest tattooed.
However, that's my opinion - you asked for an explanation, and I gave it. But I agree with you - no one has the right to tell you what to do. But I suppose they thought that you at your young age, didn't really know what you were doing. Their mistake!
