The Apostolic Age died when the last Apostle (St. John the Divine) did. But the Doctrine of the Apostles is carried on through the Bishops of the Church by Apostolic Succession and the laying on of hands. The Church is organic...the Body of Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit at Pentecost....with Jesus Christ as the Head, and all Baptized Persons are the members.

the Apostolic office never left. It has always been around and there are people operating in that office today. They just do not take on the title of apostle even though they are. And God is still using them to do a unifying work in the body of Christ. So, it's not a question of do we still need them, they have already been here, but you mostly here about them doing work overseas in the mission fields just like the apostle Paul.

We are so far from being unified, it's unreal.

The Apostles handed on their teaching and their authority - it did not end with their deaths.

Just how is Christianity unified? They began ecumenical groups to try and bring them together and still struggle in separation.
