Homeless people have all the good carts.

Nope, a more likely realistic explanation is that all four wheels made were of same and exact quality. But the bad wheel is the one that has sustained more pressure than the other wheels due to pressure pushed unevenly thought the wheels. If you notice, most bad wheels are in the back of the cart because many people put their body weight on the handle while pushing. You tend to see these kind of people putting their bellies on top of the handle, or resting on it.

this is not the intended goal we here at @$%^ A-Cart Up inc. think that TESTING carts prevents a statistically predictably large number of accidents and embarrassing spills, trips, bumps, and stubs(a toe jam term). we have a professional staff who take carts out on a regular basis at area wide stores and: 1)ride wheelies in the parking lot tests wheel alignment and determines if oiling is needed 2)stuff mop hairs in wheel hubs mobility impairment takes several forms right rear drag left rear drag front left drag front right drag all front drag all rear drag 3 wheel drag 4 wheel drag this test is a drag 3) sideways scoot train want to know how the wheels get rubbed to the nub? watch our trained cart pushing crew get a load of carts locked end to end facing the wrong way and then twist and tug that choo choo across grating gravel and asphalt! tears that rubber wheel right up! if the wheels are good, they just wear flat on one side giving a nice bumpity bumpity shopping experience. Also a frequent cause of the roll bump roll bump sliiiiiiide syndrome where a chewed up wheel is trying to find enough friction on a waxed floor to flip off the dull side, but can only do so with the help of a sticky aisle spill.

Yes, I believe it is the stores way of making sure we spend more time shopping. I got a cart once that got a squeak then the back tire, then flattened then got wedged in such a way that the cart became useless. It was wrong. I had to transfer all my groceries into a new cart, that had a wonky wheel.

The ones I get aren't noisy--they're just harder than hell to push. Seems that I'm prone to picking shopping carts that have a bent front wheel. Load it up with $200 in groceries and it's REALLY hard to push. I'd rather have one that squeaked or rattled!

The stores demand they are supplied that way.

The more trouble the cart gives you, the longer you are in the store looking at the goods on the shelves, and the more you buy.

If you get a cart that rides smoothly, it's because somebody has damaged it.

Apparently so! Anytime my roommate and I go into Walmart I'm not allowed to choose which cart we use. I apparently have some kinda of bad shopping cart omen.

The one's at my Safeway are sort of the same way. But not noisy, they have an alignment problem where I'll push it straight and one wheel sticks or it veers severely. I said something about it one time to my favorite checker, and she said she knows they all have problems but nobody does anything about it, and then helped me push it out of the door so it wouldn't hit anything. Pathetic, eh?

Yes they do. I think they worry people would fight over the one or two good ones so they make them all bad.
