I just read an article about that. People who believe in "past lives" and can see ghosts have been studied and they are twice as likely as someone in the general population to have a type of "memory processing error." I hope I can find a link for you!

Firstly, my own opinion, is some people see ghosts but normally they are a family member who has died so i would say depending on how close you were with them when they were alive.Secondly if they have unfinished busy or haven't be able to cross over they will try to find closure to what is worry them with that person and therefore have to appear to sort it out. Also depend on the person is how the ghost will appear, some come in a dreams or visions. They very rarely appear as a whole person in front of you normally just in hazy light form.

I 'see' ghosts for the same reason I don't 'see' God.
"Drunk, gullible or on medication".

Actually, it's because of what I believe.
But I did like the responses from 'the mob' (as given, above).

In those three words, they did more for me to explain why I don't believe in God (or indeed most of the belief systems espoused here in R&S, intolerance, in a word) than I could've done in a month of explaining, myself.

I might be seen as intolerant, and ignorant, for being an un-believer, but it's so heart warming to know that there are Believers, Agnostics, atheists (Insert whatever particular creed here) that hold opinions like that.

So yeah, to recap, briefly, if you don't believe in something, it kind of diminishes your chances of seeing it.

Hope that clarifies a bit, and sorry about the rant.

Edit: Sorry, I left out the glaringly obvious one - mental illness.

Yes. There is a theory that certain people have an open section of their brain that most others have closed off by the age of 7 that allows them to communicate with ghosts.

Ghosts tend to come to children, very rarely though do they make themselves visible. Its more of a feeling or sign you get that they're around, like a flickering light or a knock on the door.

How do you know those who claim they have seen a ghost has actually seen one? They might believe they did, because they firmly believe ghosts exist. Sometimes a particularly vivid dream experience, especially happened during a half asleep & half awake state, would serve to convince him of having seen one.

It takes a special combination of low dosages of brain cells, high dosages of off centeredness, and a dash of bat wings, and some eye of newt to taste.
And the same people who are the only ones to see aliens, can't forget about them.

Well people who are craxy "say" they see ghosts but they say kids can see them. Kids are known to see them. They have the abillity but when they grow up they lose it but very few keep it. Mediums.

People cant see them but some are hunted by them.

An interesting question. I will be checking the answers later. I think people who mess with the occult leave themselves open to contact from evil spirits

Yes, some people have fantasy prone personalities, and/or have primed themselves into believing in the supernatural and will interpret any ambiguous sensory input as being paranormal!
