A few weeks ago, i worked up the nerve to ask out a girl i was crushing on for months, it caught her by surprize, so i left it an open ended option. next time i saw her she seemed almost apologetic, saying she wasn't expecting that and that she was "spoken for". i was almost relieved, now we could go on being friends and i wouldn't have to waste emotions or continue to crush on her, though i probably still do abit. anyways, now when i see her shes really tuned into me, excited almost for when i come around. its probably just something fun for her, and i don't care, but now knowing that she has a boyfriend, i was looking to distance myself from the situation, tone it down; she seems to be opposite, whats that mean?

Is she the kind of person who would just tease you because she knows you like her? Or maybe she is just really flattered, but however...if she has a boyfriend, don`t give in to anything.

perhaps since you caught her off guard........and she's had time to think about it......she's flattered, and feels "wanted" again. perhaps her relationship right now isn't going where she wants it to go, perhaps he doesn't respect her or pay enough attention to her, so having YOU surprise her and give her a bit of a boost in her ego that someone actually is interested........she's now wanting to be more interested in getting to know you better.
But you're right in saying you want to tone it down some....find other things to do and keeping your mind on other things rather than her. She'll eventually talk to you more and tell you she's feeling like she wants to get together sometime to get to know you more...at that time you can say "thanks, but i have other commitments" and leave it at that~
Life can be confusing sometimes eh? i know lol. goodluck

the fact is that people like to be liked so she get excited when she knows that some1 else likes her and she wants you to keep liking her cause it makes her feel good. and maby she likes messing with her boyfriend by flirting with you or something.

she's young and you flattered her --a enjoyable distraction and hey--she may want to break up and date you

she's wishing she didn't have that boyfriend, at least when you're around.
