don't give them your opinion of GW, the war, etc. etc. That soldier may or may not agree with you, but to get letters from "home" bashing their mission there isn't cool.

A brief letter about everyday stuff would be much appreciated, and no matter what anyone has said here, a "Thank you" and "your service is appreciated" goes a long way for morale

I have never served anywhere, but it seems that they would miss the little things about back home. I don't mean to be ironic, but I would thik that even the most dedicated would feel homesick once in a while. So write about the season where you are, the food -- have the jacked the price of cheeseburgers again? If you're writing, they know you care, so stay away from cliches and generalities like, 'keep up the good work,' -- they probably long for the sights and sounds of home. Tell anecdotes. What made you laugh? Heard any good jokes lately? What shows you're watching on TV, how it's getting near time to plant the tomatoes, what fashions look cool for summer. Get their mind off their worries, their concern for their buddies with a slice of life from back home. Help them feel the pulse of familiar surroundings. And keep away from politics for goodness sake.

whatever you want. just write to them as a friend. dont write a whole letter thanking them for what they do and telling them how much you appreciate them, maybe about a sentence of that or something but not the entire letter because chances are they wont read it if you do. Other people do that and it is a very nice gesture but it gets old after a while. maybe tell them some jokes or a funny story or something.

Tell them about day to day things in your life in America. Perhaps comments about sports, movies and the like could be added.
Do not talk about politics, religion and war.

right now now I'm deployed at an undisclosed location currently me and my fellow troops are doing alright, what you could write to us about. Is maybe about how we are making a difference, also to keep our hopes up! and that we will be home soon! I'm sure you will think of something.... keeping the peace in this hot neck of the woods... OUT
