The people who said Islam are the biggest bunch of ignorant idiots!!! You know NOTHING about this religion obviously. And what about Imus? He didn attack women in general. He's a just some crazy old man who used his right of freedom of speech in an offensive way. So that leaves Rap Lyrics (many of which enforce the words spoken by Imus) and ofcourse, many of which degrade all kinds of women to no end so we got a winner, there ya go!!

Imus made racial slurs, not necessarily against just the women, but is offensive to both men AND women. Islam doesn't "suppress" women, MEN DO in various cultures by using religion, to include Christianity (where they can get their filthy way) and rap is rap... it's what you make of it... if you perceive it as a prop for hatred, racism, anti-women then that's how you perceive it.
Your question shows ignorance on a large scale, perhaps an education would better serve you.
edit/addition: kyeann what an ignorant, unkind ramble... first of all female circumcision is CULTURAL and it's being phased OUT as fast as people can educate these cultures and it has NOTHING to do with ISLAM at it's core.

I think you meant repressive :)
The Islamic faith is somewhat repressive, and is used as an excuse in many countries around the world to give women less of a chance (if any) in the workplace or in public office than men. But I think most of what we term "Islamic repression of women" in these countries often has more to do with culture than religion. Remember, Christian-dominated Western societies went through many of the same problems in the past; we just changed while some others haven't yet. The real repression in Islam comes into play when you hear the vile words of the Osama bin Ladens of the world. But these are the extreme, not the norm.
I don't think rap represses women, but rather looks down on them. It often treats them as mindless sex slaves, but it does not fundamentally take away their ability to live their lives on their terms.

I don't think Imus suppresses women. He may be a misogynist. He may want to keep women down. I wouldn't know. But he can't suppress me. He doesn't have that kind of power. If he said that women should go in the kitchen and not work outside the home (and maybe he has, again, I wouldn't know) it woudln't make one bit of difference to me.

It's unfair to suggest that the Islamic faith is repressive to women. That is a common misconception today, because what we hear on the telly is so often what we come to believe. But the blame belongs to the followers, not the faith, for the degradation of Muslim women that has taken place. Men, from all religions, have taken religion into their own hands, perverted its meaning, and used it to their convenience. Women are undermined by the limitations placed on them by men, not by the Qur'an.

As a muslim woman, I don't believe that the Islamic faith suppresses me... the men in my family have the responsibility of my education and well being... I've chosen to continue my education -the men in my family are obliged to pay for it.
I may not be able to drive, but I've got my own car and private driver to take me where ever I want to go. I have my own cell-phone, laptop, private line at home. I have a housekeeper to do everything for me. I work if I choose to, or stay home if I choose to. If I work, my earnings are mine to do with as I please, as it is the duty of the men in my family to provide for me. If I want something, all I have to do is ask -and it's mine! I usually don't have to wait in line. I don't have to carry groceries. I just have to enjoy being a woman!
Rap lyrics in my opinion are suppressive. They are demeaning to women.
Imus, he's human. He made a mistake by speaking his mind.

Islam is not suppressive. I believe Western culture is the most suppressive to women.
Only in the west do you see working pregnant women, high divorce rates, high prostitution rates, high baby killing mothers rates, high domestic abuse rates. Songs about insulting women, movies about insulting women.
Where in the Islamic World do you see that ? get your facts straight.
