Well for starters everyone knows that dragons don't particularly like passangers, so you would be better off eating the regulars.

Now eventually you would start to run out of food. So here is what I propose.

The dragon would provide you with food for quite awhile, but killing it will be tricky. Wait until he is asleep, sneak up on him, reciting the alphabet backwards, and tap him on the left toe. This will kill him, instantly. Now skin him and prepare the meat for storage.

When skinning make sure to take care with the wings, keeping them in one piece.

Now as you feast on the meat of the dragon, fashion yourself a harness out of palm fronds, and lash them to the wings. Climb the hightest tree and jump, you should be able to glide for a few hours, until you need to flap.

Just remember, sneezing will bring the whole contraption crashing down, so take your allergy meds before hand.

So I guess in answer to your question, yes I would count on the dragon to fly me off the island.

I am a dragon, so I would only have to rely on myself, although Fireball would make a great snickety snack.

No, I love my R&S regulars. I would call on Puff to come and get me...or at least bring us food.

No, but I do rely on it to keep the neighborhood cat population in check.
