If you are using Firefox 2.0 and up this could be your problem. Seems the newer models of Firefox really suck. I have no idea why. But they are definately freezing alot more and I've noticed many problems with the newer versions. If you can revert back to like 1.5 or something if you have it backed up somewhere.

Sometimes your Firefox profile will get corrupted. When this has happened to me, I've had to uninstall Firefox, then remove my profile.

I don't know where the Firefox profile is stored on a Linux distro., but if you were using Windows, you would have to:

1. Set Windows to show hidden files.
2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\
3. Delete the Firefox folder.

Reinstall Firefox and see what happens.

Like I said, I don't know where the profile info is stored on Linux, so good luck with that one.

Download the newest version and install it. This sounds like Firefox is interfering with some process of the operating system. Most likely this is solved with the newest update.

Good luck in getting the best browser ever back up and running.

Does "shuts down" mean exits gracefully, or crashes?

If you have any extensions installed, they may be corrupted, or not like linux. Try disabling all your extensions first and enable them one by one to see if you can isolate any problematic extensions.

If that doesn't help, check the profile manager help pages on mozilla.org and try creating a new profile and copy your old bookmarks into it. Run that profile without any extensions installed to see if it still has the problem. Then add any extensions back one by one and see what happens.

Check for updates and install if there are any. If not, try reinstalling FireFox.
