I received a trail version of vista ultimate for thirty days i could have it longer if I wanted but I'm fed up with it it. had I just bought the damn thing it probably would have worked better. Just a lot of errors and what not and it really slows down my comp even though I have a gig of RAM. Anyways yeah my question. I need to know how to restore my Windows XP. I don't Have an installation disc because it came pre-installed on my lap top. I'm not sure if restoring my computer settings to an earlier date would do the trick or not. I just thought I'd ask before I start messing around with it.

Unfortunately, the changes between XP and Vista are so major that no restore point is created to allow you to go back. The number of files that would have to be saved as part of the "restore point" would be 99% of WIndows XP, which would fill up your hard drive in no time.

So the only way to revert to XP is going to be to format the hard drive and reinstall XP from a Windows CD or Recovery CD.

If you have a validate activation code (should be on a sticker on your PC) then you can use anyones Windows CD to do the install. All the CDs are the same. Also if you contact Microsoft, they will ship you a Windows CD - without an activation code - for (last time I checked) $20. (Lot cheaper then the $100-150 in the stores).

If you upgraded from XP then the only choice you have is to format the drive and clean install XP again. That's why it's a good idea to dual-boot if you're trying out a new Windows OS.
