Houses myself. Condo's or apartments have rules regarding what you can and can't do on the outside of the place. I don't like it, when I can't plant flowers or cut the grass if it's too long.
With a house you are building equity and it is increasing in value, while this may be true for the condo also, there are still condo fees to be paid and again you have little control over how the money is spent.

HOUSES! I have had way too many bad experiences at apartments, especially with older people! Like, being in my bedroom with the tv on, not very loud & someone banging on my wall cause they can hear it! Or if you have dogs, OMG! IF they bark, which dogs usually do expect some complaints! If they accidently get out (I had apt with a little fence) expect some complaints! I now live in a townhome, not connected to any other houses & it is GREAT! No one bothers me!

My personal preference is a house. Why? Apparently I'm a sucker for punishment. Somehow, someway, I like to do the yardwork and exterior maintenance and interior maintenance and decorate, etc. My house is an extension of me, and I have complete control over it in a house. Sometimes, however, when I have to go outside in 100+ degree heat to do yardwork I can understand the "Let someone else take care of it" faction.

I would have to say 100% house.
-If you want to paint the inside, you do not need permission
-You don't have anyone to answer to if you accidentally break something.
-you will make $$$ when you move
-you are not bound by someone elses rules
-A lot of times, you can get a house with an attached garage
-usually you have more space in a house
-parking is better
-You dont have to worry about neighbors traffic at your front door
-there are so many more reasons....

House because:
-more space
-don't have to worry about the neighbors hearing anything
-backyard
I always felt so confined when I lived in a apartment.

well if i had no children i suppose an apartment would be OK for a little while, but i like to have something that has privacy outside too, so I guess I would have to say a house.

I live in an apartment so I don't have to bother with maintenance or yard care.
