All Christians do.
To give validation to a sin would not be prudent.

There is a tricky and unfortunate part of our legal system called "equal protection under the law". That innocuous sounding phrase is the answer to your question.
If we allowed the legal definition of marriage to be anything other than between one man and one woman, then every group could invoke the "equal protection under the law" clause and demand that their definition be given equal status.
This means that perverted old men from NAMBLA could sue for the right to marry young boys. Men could demand the right to marry multiple wives. Real sickos could demand that they be allowed to marry an animal (yes, there are people that perverted).
This is not some far-fetched doomsday fantasy. This is exactly what lawyers are warning will happen. The same problem derailed the 1970's Equal Rights Amendment, because, "equal protection under the law" means that "separate, but equal" is not good enough. Girls could have demanded to join the boys football team, or join the boy scouts. Separate restrooms could not be enforced. In the reverse, a man could demand the right to work as the towel man in a woman's gym. Any crazy, whiny demand would have to be addressed. It would have disrupted society and made the commonplace impossible.
The intelligent way around this problem is to create a recognized "legal union" between same sex couples, and define it as such. This would let same sex couples share health insurance, have each other in their wills, etc.
So, forget about the minority of gay marriage opponents who do so on religious grounds. The only important consideration is how changing the legal definition of marriage would turn our already beleagured courts into an absolute nightmare of endless lawsuits.

Yes that is why the ten commandments put the American laws to shame. Why isn't adultery a crime? What worth is marriage if you could just go out and cheat and not even get a slap on the wrist? And a government can remain moral without becoming a theocracy. Remember how Atheists always say religion alone does not provide morality.. So why haven't they established any moral laws, such as against adultery? The entire system is hypocritical. As long as people are slaves to immorality, they will never have true liberty.

First of all Leave the Constitution out of this. I have never seen anywhere in the constitution that says that ANYONE has the right to marry.
Secondly- there are adultery laws in most states in the USA but they are very rarely enforced, probably because the polititians are guilty of this crime.
Lastly- Why do people no longer think they have to be responsible for their actions and choices. Everyone thinks that we should all get whatever we want regardless of our choices or behavior. No I am not one of those misguided people who have been duped into the whole "we were born that way" crap. This is a choice that is made. Many times it is a choice that is made over a period of years- I don't believe that most people wake up one morning and say " I think I will be gay" It is usually a culmination of many other choices. I don't think that people who make this choice should be pushed out of society or not allowed to work anywhere. I would never throw stones through their windows. But I do think that if you want to be married, that you should be straight. Marriage is ordained of god between a man and a woman. That is how the family unit was set up. God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden and then provided him with a wife and commanded them to populate the earth. Part of the reason Soddom and Gomorah was destroyed was because of homosexuality. God intended for man and woman to marry and have a family. If he had not intended this, then he would not have made it so that it takes a man and a woman to create a child- he would have made us asexual. That is obvious. God did not intend this. I guess I just say- if this is the lifestyle you want then that is your business, But please remember that children have the right to have a mother and a father who love each other and are married. That is how God intended it.

First adultery in America is illegal. but different states have different ways of dealing with it, plus it's not a crime against the government as much as the opposing spouse can file charges.
Second, What seems more "natural" too you, Gay marriage or plural marriage? Plural marriage was supported in the bible before Christ. However, Gay marriage was never supported. So, any Christian who believes in the bible would support plural marriage before Gay marriage.
Third, with the second point. What if Gay marriage is legalized? Well, we already established that plural marriage is more natural then Gay marriage, so then why not legalize plural marriage to? If that happens then on person could be married to multiple partners of different sexes. And some (if not all) of the partners could be be married to other partners of different sexes, on and on. Then Marriage itself and the traditional "man and wife" is meaningless and dead. This is all despite any religious belief. So what's next? Will it be legal to marry our pets?
See the confusion and trouble it would cause? Not only that, Despite what is claim to be internal or natural yearnings, wants, needs or whatever; being "gay" is a chosen lifestyle. People are born black or white, blond or brunette. But, Being gay is a choice, so why should they get "special" prestiges becuase they chose to be different?

Perhaps the word marriage is the hang-up. Marriage is between two heterosexuals. What you mean is a life long commitment. Many people in marriages do not make that commitment. Cheating and adultery are just that; cheating and adultery. Once you make a commitment with another live by it! Stay committed and faithful.

First of all I would like to say..." by attacking Americans AND Christians you are asking for more trouble and arguements"...If you want an honest answer maybe you could ask in a question rather than down-grading people.
I happen to be both- American AND Christian but I'm not opposed to what you do. I'm not on this earth to judge anybody. I actually wish everybody could be accepting of everybody else- if you don't agree with one groups views...who cares? Who ever said you had too?

Many consider marriage a religious issue, so atheists should unite behind this. We should put pressure on the politicians to legalize gay marriage, or our right to marry may be put in jeopardy next. I'm not thrilled with the idea of gay marriage because I think it's kind of gross, but I have no objections to it on moral or legal grounds. Why should heterosexuals be the only ones to receive tax breaks in certain conditions? And I've always said, who I am to deny anyone else the right to be just as miserable as the rest of us? (Just kidding; don't get your panties in a wad.)

they feel that you should believe in what they believe in...a unity of 1 between a man and a woman..not of the same sex....alot of christians oppose to it because of the beliefs and the way they were raised....there are laws aganist adultry but they arent as big as the ones for gay marriages.
A long time ago, they would hang a person for adultry...watch the Movie Scarlett Letter....it has Demi Moore...its a great movie...they made her wear a Patch with scarlett Red letter A.

I'm not against gay marriage. i could care less. I really don't think that it should be against the law though because some people think that it's wrong....why do they have the right to decide how other people live.
but i do have to point that in MI there is a law against adultery. if convicted of it, it is a felony.

There were once laws against adultery in all US states. Presently, not all states have such laws, and none enforce them ( which has nothing to say about whether they should be enforced or not). Check your history books.
