The Bible 1 John 2:18
Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

Apparently there were many antichrists even in the time of Christ.

The Bible 1 John 2:22
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ?
He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

You have to deny both Jehovah and Jesus to be an antichrist.

The Bible 1 John 4:3
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist,
whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

If you deny Jesus came as flesh (man) you are an antichrist.

The Bible 2 John 1:7
For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

It appears only John wrote in The Bible of an antichrist.
Other references to such a thing are only by supposition.

Have a pleasant day.

Both. It speaks (in 1 John) of "many anti-christs" who stand in opposition to the message of Christ. But also states that there will be an "ultimate" Anti-Christ who will stand against God at the end of time. The term is used both ways in the scripture.

Yes, but not in the way that evangelicals would have us believe here in the dawn of the third millennium AD.

Check out these passages: 1 John 2.18, 1 John 2.22, 1 John 4.3, and 2 John 1.7.

If you are going to believe the New Testament as the word of God, then you cannot listen to evangelical fear mongers like Jack van Impe (and his lovely wife Roxella) or John Hagee, or Hal Lindsay. The bible says that an anti-christ is someone who does not believe that Jesus came in the flesh. John was dealing with the infant movement that would later be known as Gnosticism.

There were many then, and there are many now. The New Testament is not as sensational as people would have us believe. Read it for yourself, don't take a pastor's word for it. I'm a minister, and most of us are nuts. I'm not joking.

Anyone who says the Beast and the Abomination of Desolation are one in the same are taking it out of context, and are listening to people that they shouldn't. Nor, do they understand apocalyptic literature.

That would be to argue semantics. There are no capitals in Greek, so it would be impossible to tell. However, the Bible refers to both "the" and "an," so I suppose it's reader's choice.

Remember, the majority of the New Testament was written in Koine' Greek, later translated to Latin, and even later to German.

The "anti-christ" is simply anyone who opposes the teachings of Jesus. One must also understand that John of Pathmos (the author of Revelation, which was a series of letters) was in exile at the time, as many Christians were and wrote largely in code to protect his whereabouts; however those who read his letters, were familiar with his writings and knew very well what and who he was referring to.

But all in the same, great question.

Peace,

Beki

Yes.
1 John 2:18-19 "You have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us."

Anti means against

Any one who is against Christ is an antichrist.

2 John :7
"Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist."

Does any of this sound familiar???

Based on my own interpretation, I would have to say that the answer would be "the" anti-christ as the anti-christ is supposed to be the person who represents Satan in the final battle over mankind.

Outside of the New Testament, few sources have survived to convey any details of what happened to the Christian religion during that time. Yet the New Testament record is clear. A major breach had occurred within Christianity. In fact, Jesus and His apostles had continually warned that this would occur (compare Matthew 7:15; 24:5, 11; Acts 20:29-31; 1 John 4:1).

Jesus gave this warning: "For false (anti) Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. Behold, I have told you in advance" (Matthew 24:24-25, NASB).

In the early decades of the Church, the apostles vehemently opposed attempts to corrupt the truth they had personally received from Christ (1 John 2:24-26). Paul warned some of the very elders he had ordained that "from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears" (Acts 20:30-31).

Peter proclaimed: "There will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies ... And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed" (2 Peter 2:1-2). John also warned that "many deceivers" had already gone out into the world with their heresies masquerading as Christianity (2 John 7).

How could this happen? Jesus explained that, amid the "wheat" (His true people), God would allow "tares" to grow (Matthew 13:37-43). At first they would appear to be indistinguishable from the wheat, but, in the end, they would bear no heads of grain, no fruit to prove them genuine. On the surface they would look like real disciples, but in reality they would be far different. They would have within them no depth of commitment to the true gospel and Christ's teachings.

Thus out of the apostolic period of the Church emerged two distinct "Christian" religions. One, small and almost invisible on the world scene, remained faithful to Christ's message. The other (Roman Catholicism) appropriated Christ's name even as it incorporated ideas and practices from other religions—a process known as syncretism—as was common in the Roman Empire of the day. Traditions of men replaced the commands of God and became entrenched in what would become the predominant form of Christianity known to the world.

The gospel of the Kingdom today

In spite of such difficulties and the rise of this counterfeit Christianity, Jesus Christ has remained true to His promise that His true Church would never die out. At His return, those Christians faithfully serving Him, steadfastly loyal to God's commandments, will be ready for their role in the next phase of God's plan of salvation. They will become kings and priests of God, assisting Christ in teaching the entire world the same obedience to God's law (Revelation 5:10; 20:6; Micah 4:1-2).

There is a literal Anti-Christ who is to be revealed...there are also "many anti-Christ's" who are quite evident.

Yes, obviously in many places, but also
as a thread that runs completely through
Scripture from start to finish; For example,
many don't realize that the fig leaves in the
Garden of Eden was the beginning of a prophecy about the END of this age, and
specifically about Antichrist coming. Thats
why God insists that you know and understand the "parable of the Fig tree".
