Distract yourself. You aren't eatting b/c you are hungry. You are eatting b/c you are bored or emotional. You need to figure out why you eat.
If you are just sitting there during commercials do you wander to the fridge? If so, decide to do something. "During the next commerical break, you have to put in laundry" "During the next commercial break I'm going to see if I can lay on my back and bicycle in the air the whole time, all 4 or 5 commercials"
If you eat b/c you are emotional, you need a better coping strategy. Do you eat when you are sad, happy, depressed?
Consider reading Dr Phil's Book the Ultimate Weight Solution. It is a great book and gives you lots of insight into why you turn to food.
And drink more water. I agree with the post that many times our body recognizes dehydration as hunger. Attempt to drink 6-8 glasses a day. Carry a bottle around with you all the time. Water is an excellent hunger suppressant.

Whenever you think you're hungry, drink 2 glasses of water. Usually we think we're hungry when we're actually dehydrated. Wait an hour or so before giving in to the food craving.

Are you hungry or do you just want to eat? If you are really hungry carrots, apples and cereals should do the trick, but if you, just like me, WANT to eat, there is nothing else to do than keeping yourself busy and sqeeze your newly arrived fat whenever you want to eat. Life is unfair, I know.
