To all the guys out there who have a phobia of commitment: What is the safest way to bring it up in conversation? Been dating for about a year now, and I am nervous to have the "talk". He is very set in his ways. What should I say? I feel it's important to me if I am going to continue with this relationship.

Thanks for answers! I didn't say ALL men have commitment phobias, I said MY bf does. Also, HOW do you bring up the conversation? I know it must be done, but would appreciate some advice on starting the conversation. Thanks!

You don't. If a man is commitment phobic, it is safe to say that he is not marriage minded. A lot of women make the mistake of thinking they can change the man, but don't fool yourself. If marriage is what you desire, seek a man who is like-minded.

If I wanted to be committed I would be in jail or an insane asylum. Just beacuse you have been dating for a year doesn't mean its going to last forever. You can't get a promise that nothing will change in the future. Make the most out of the time you have now, don't worry about the future, the future will come regardless.

You don't bring it up. Make up your own mind first about the issue. If you are having doubts now, what will change after a convo? My wife and I didn't have any kind of "talk". Only later, about kids and marriage and all the big stuff. Remember: guys are like buses. There's a new one every fifteen minutes. Usually going to the same place!

You are wrong in your assumption. Men do not have a phobia about commitment, in fact men want to be in a committed relationship even more than women do. Only problem is men and women have a different definition of "commitment". Of course women are wrong.

You got to speak to him, of what you wish to achieve in your relationship. Not speak it doesn't mean the question answered, and in fact, nobody can read your mind 100% if you do not speak:-)

The only way to know is to ask, you can't keep looking past this, if you don't ask then you don't know if he is really worth your time.
