Well, you have a variety of answers to choose from. LOL.
There are two types of inquiries that are show up on your report. Soft inquiry and hard inquiry.
A soft inquiry is when a cc company pulls your report to see if you qualify for their card or your current cc pulls your report in order to raise your credit limit. Those do not hurt your score, but they do show up on your report.
A hard inqiry is when you actually apply for credit - a loan, a cc, an apt, etc. That shows up on your report and effects your score.
When someone is doing a background check - usually for a job, it is a soft inquiry. If you look at the inquiry section on your report, you will see letters off to the side. Those letters mean different things and you can tell which ones are soft and which ones are hard.
Either way, inquiries stay on your report for two years before falling off.
Check w/ whoever is doing the check just to be sure. They should be able to answer if it will be a soft pull or a hard one.
Good luck!

Somoe background checks do not check your credit, some do. Most of the ones that do would be in response to a job where you would be handling money. You could always put a notation on your reports that you work in finance and are looking for employment to explain to companies why there are additional inquiries on your report.

Usually it does, yes. But that's not a bad thing necessarily, unless it's being done a lot of times in a row, for things such as loans.

For many jobs (non-financial ones, natch), I don't think a credit report is part of the background check. I was recently hired by a major company in town, and their background check on me didn't produce any dings (I subscribe to a service that keeps track of my credit report with all 3 bureaus).

No. It just verifies whether you have a criminal record , and if so then it describes each penal code and section. Has nothing to do with your credit score.

Everytime you apply for credit it gets recorded by the credit bureau. It's not really bad unless you are apply alot then it makes you look desperate.
