Actually 90's music kinda reminded me more of the 70's than the 80's.
It always seems that a generation always rejects the previous generation's music and fashion. In the 80's everybody made fun of disco and leisure suits of the 70's. In the 90's everybody made fun of the big hair bands and members only jackets of the 80's. Now the 90's are on the verge of looking ridiculous and the 80's are cool again.

What do you mean? Michael Jackson was around in the 90s and in fact he was one of the top-selling artists then too. If you know 90s music you know the songs "black or white", "you are not alone", "remember the time", etc.
