WEll he's just having a great ole time playing chase isn't he. Try getting his attention and making him chase you back into the yard.

We use electronic collars to train our dogs many things. In this case you'd let him out call him and if he doesn't respond you hit the button, he'll receive a shock and come home quickly then lay on the praise. He will get to know when he has the collar on he needs to come back, they are smart that way. It also works better then invisible fence for setting boundaries and also for things like jumping up and jumping on doors. And chasing horses! It does not hurt them and they remember it quite well but may need refreshers from time to time. We also obedience train but for the most important things, like coming when called we always use the e collar, it is much safer to know they will obey this command and not run out into the street or whatever. I've only had 1 out of 11 dogs over the years, we usually have 2-3 dogs at a time, actually run the other way and not come home due to the shock, now we use the e collar while they are on a long line the first time to ensure they come back to us. a good e collar runs around 80-100 dollars, a good investment, they last for years, we've only had 2 in 25 years of dog owning.

Maybe try taking him to training so he learns how to sit and stay when you open the door. My dog is 11 months old and that is one of the things that we are working on in training. He can do the sit & stay normally but when the door opens or if someone comes to the door, he gets excited and wants to jump and run. It just takes consistent training to get them to not run away.
I'd do it quickly too because you will be devestated if something horrible happens to him. We lost a dog last year who had gotten out of the house through the front door and he was hit by a car and killed. We decided that when we replaced him that we would get our new dog thoroughly trained so that he would listen to us when we needed to call him.

I use to have the same problem with my pit every time I would open the front door he would run. What I use to do is get him back into the house and then put on his leash open the door again and like always he tried to run outside I would hold him til I got out and them him it took time to get him use to it now if I open the door he would wait til I say its ok

Most dogs need a sense of freedom so use a leash and take him for walks he won't feel so cramped and will run out much less. It will gradually train him not to escape.

he could just want to go out and not be locked at home all day. do you take him for walks everyday? i guess boxers require a lot of attention. the show 'ITS ME OR THE DOG' had the same problem. check out the website.

Put up a fence around the house. Put him out back on a chain when you do retrieve him from running out the house, so he can learn his lesson.
