The vibration you can feel is your kitten purring which is a sign that he's happy. Some cats have a very loud purr that sounds like a motor is running, whilst others make very little sound when they purr. My female cat purrs very quietly, but you can feel the vibrations through her chest and shoulders when you stroke her.
Some cats are so affectionate that they also dribble when being petted by their owners.
Sounds like you've got off to a good start with your first kitten.

in all probability your cat is purring, a noise meaning that he's chuffed. some cats make different varieties of noises in the circumstances you describe. I had one cat that pretended to nurse as quickly as I puppy him. The noise he made replaced right into a sucking noise blended with purring. My different cat makes a noise like a faint sheep's bleating whilst she sees birds or squirrels outdoors. i will think of that a cat would make this noise whilst stalking a toy too. Congratulations on your kitten. 5 weeks is only too youthful for adoption, so i'm hoping the mother cat continues to be around or which you have consulted a vet on a thank you to look after an underage kitten.

Sounds like he's purring! Last I heard, it's still a mystery as to how and why cats actually make the sound, but it means he is happy and likes you! Most kittens can make the sound continuously, so that it sounds like a little motor going on endlessly when he's around you. In my cats, at least, the way their purring sounded changed slightly when they grew up-you can hear them breathe while they do it, so their purring is in little bursts (this is the best way I can describe it). But in kittens its continuous when they are happy, and even when you can't hear it, you can feel their little bodies vibrating with their purring, especially around the neck and torso. Unless he's acting lethargic (doesn't want to play, seems sad, lies around a lot, seems spaced out) or is refusing to eat/drink, has a runny nose & eyes, I wouldn't worry. He's just happy to be with you. :)

The vibration is probably purring, you can feel it in their whole body even when you can't hear it. :)
If the cat is acting sick, like not playing, laying by the water bowl, talking more than usual or any other behavior that you feel is out of the ordinary take it to your vet. Otherwise, its probably normal and nothing to worry to about. Have a great time with your new little friend!

He is "purring." It is a sign of pleasure, relaxation, and contentment. It means he likes you a lot. Try gently scratching his spine and behind his ears, cats love that....
As to what the purpose of purring is, no one really knows for certain.....I have heard that it helps stimulate bone growth and muscle development....
