I know some servicemembers don't do this but I am just curious to know if anyone has and if they know where the habit of naming your weapon comes from. The first person to answer the second part of the question gets the ten points. (BTW I know the answer. ) Good luck!
Oh and just so you know my rifles have been named:
M-16s in the Marine Corps- All of them were Jules- 1st, 2nd etc
In the Army my M-4 while in the 82nd was Meridius and the 50 cal on our truck was Decimus.

I didn't name any of my Army weapons, and I carried the M-60, the M-16, the M-4, and the M-9. The closest I came to naming any of them was calling the M-60 my Hawg.

My personal weapons, on the other hand, are ALL named.

I was only armed on a daily basis for about one year out of 25 in the Air Force and seldom carried the same firearm twice. Never got that personally atttached to any of them. Well, there WAS this sweet M1911A1 one time...

...sometimes I find myself wondering where she is now.

I was a 'Star trek' fan so I always named my tank 'Enterprise.'
(Unless an officer also wanted that name for his tank and was willing to pull rank.)
