I believe at one point canned water might have been a populat product among survivalists when it came to stocking doomsday shelters.
However, this period has passed, and as well, one person has mentioned that cans are not the ideal water storage media. While contamination from the can I do believe would be minimum, it simply isn't conveinient - bottled water has a firm hold on the market, and it's just as well.
A bottle you can easily reseal and reuse - generally with cans you cannot.
As to the idea of canned water like canned soda, well... I think a lot of it has to do with the culture. Bottled water has always been a "healthy" alternative to "unhealthy" sodas - avoiding their packaging medium is one way to help highlight this and boost the image.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

It does exist and it's not that tasty. I volunteered in New Orleans for 3 weeks for the hurricane disaster and they provided canned water made by busch beer company. It was really nasty tasting. The water picks up the metal flavor in the can. Not very refreshing at all. But yes, there is such a thing as canned water. I'd stick with bottled.

Occasionally the beer companies will can water. I was a wildland firefighter and during fire season in Northern California we often received cases of canned water.
I think the water companies put it in plastic bottles because it tastes better and it is cheaper.

there is canned water. My husband has it in the soda machine at his business. Its made by Dasani, and tastes just like the can-a likely reason other companies dont make it!

As a kid, I went to a summer camp in west Texas and they had canned water in the vending machine. I always thought it was strange..

If you count unflavored sparkling water, I've drank that for years. Mendota Springs or Canada Dry. I lived off that stuff at work.
