I suck at this stuff. My brother's g/f did a major clean-out of her closet. She is about my same size and asked me if I'd like to check out some of her clothes before she gave it away or sold it. I said yes and got a bunch of new clothes out of it. I wanted to write her a thank you note but I can't think of a tactful way to say "thanks for your hand-me-downs" lol that sounds bad but I really do love the clothes and because of it have a whole new wardrobe for work and stuff! Any ideas on how I can write this so that it doesn't sound tacky or too formal? Thanks in advance!!

Just say what you wrote in your question. I just want to thank you for the clothes you gave me. You have the best taste in clothes, and I love all of them. I feel so lucky to have a whole new wardrobe for work and going out. Thank you SO much!

Are you close with your brother's girlfriend? I ask this because you can get a more personal in the thank you message. Otherwise, you can write a nice note on a lovely card expressing your appreciation for her generosity.

Something like: Dear Jane:

Thank you SO much for the generous offer of clothes! You have such great taste. I am looking forward to wearing the clothes and coordinating them with my clothes and accessories. You have been so kind and generous to me over the years, and I appreciate it so much. I hope someday to return the favor!

How's that?

Dear Karen,
Thank you for the beautiful clothes. They are timeless and and so well-made that I am sure to wear them for years to come. You took such good care of them and I am very grateful that you offered them to me. I'm so glad we're the same size and any time you want help cleaning out your closets, call me! Thank you, again.
Fondly,
Susan

Just tell her that you really appreciate the clothes she gave you, And that your happy her brother has such an awesome girlfriend. And tell her how much the gesture means to you. You don't have to use the word hand me downs.

I am all for thank you notes. I was raised to be a polite southern lady (lol). But, I do not think this situation calls for a thank you note. She did not give you something or provide you with a sincere act of kindness. She was going to get rid of some clothes she no longer wanted. Next time you see her and you have one of her items on just say, "thanks again for the clothes."

Just write the letter by starting like this: Hi 'g/f name'

i just wanted to say that I'm really grateful for the clothes you gave me. I just love them and I can't wait to use them. Thanks a lot. Once you start off it will be easy : )

Make a certificate that states "Due to your kindness you have earned a free__________" just insert something in the blank that you would be committed to doing for her sometime in the future; like washing her car or cleaning her house or something like that.

Include this certificate in a formal thank you note.

Hope this helps.
