I don't think so.
If you want to get her a little something extra special on the side you can do that.
The whole point of being a MOH is to keep things together for your bride.
You throw the bridal shower which is stressful in its own and usually you head up the bachelorette party plus your paying for your dress, accessories, travel if required.
Just get the bridal shower and actual wedding present...and throw her a shower and party.
That will be more then enough...unless you want to.

being a bride of honor to her wedding is more than a special gift to her. It shows that you are her best friend and no one could take the place but you. And by you accepting her request of being her best maid is more than enough.
But this doesn't mean that you don't purchase a gift for her. You can buy something which is special and simple, that she can remember for the rest of her life. It doen't have to be so expensive anyway.
Good luck.

If you want to, this would be special.
Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that you have shared - particularly with the weeding planning. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it! Pics of you and her, pics of her and her husband.
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

You do not have to, but if you do...don't think you have to spend a fortune...just keep it simple. Just think of a little keepsake she will cherish. Maybe a bracelet or necklace. Or maybe a photo album with photos from the parties, showers, picking out dresses for the wedding and planning.

I think so. If in doubt ask someone who has been maid of honor or ask the bride's family.
