First know that there are no quick fixes to weight loss. If you want to have long term success it is important to make small lifestyle adjustments. The goal to lose 200 lbs in 3 yrs is attainable. From the long term goal, set mid range goals, to short range goals, to daily actions. Following this pattern will help you find success in your endeavor. I would recommend doing some research on Dr. Weil's website: www.drweil.com. You can also check out his dvds and books from the library.

Yes, someone can lose 200 lbs in 3 years....In fact, it could take a little less time than that. The key to this is not looking at the big number. Take it week by week, and focus on losing 2 lbs. That's the safe number. I know that can get frustrating, but believe, I've been there. Actually, I'm there now. But you know what? The time is going to go by whether you lose 2 lbs or not, so why not focus on losing the 2 lbs and be happy with yourself and your accomplishments.
I mentioned this in another answer, but I think you would love this site.

Kill yourself - being dead is the quickest way to lose weight.
If you don't fancy that, it's the same old boring but proven method - eat fewer calories than you burn off each day. If you do that over a period of time, you cannot fail to lose weight.
The recommended weight loss for average people is 2 lbs a week max. Based on that, you should expect to lose 200 lbs over 100 weeks, or 2 years.
However, very obese people can safely lose more weight than that, so losing 200 lbs could be achieved in less then 18 months maybe.
Walking and swimming are the best exercises for very obese people, as they don't stress the joints like running and other forms of exercise do. Then, as you become lighter, you can introduce light jogging, or cycling.
At rest, muscle burns more calories than fat, so it's a good idea to build a little muscle by doing resistance work. This will keep your metabolism ticking over at rest, thus helping to lose bodyfat.
Losing bodyfat is much more important than losing weight, and it's possible to be thinner and leaner (ie take a smaller waist size) without actually losing any weight, because muscle is more dense than fat.

although i do not know the exact diet, there is this diet many heart surgery patients do that makes them lose outrageous amounts of weight before they have to go into surgery. it is prescribed by the doctor so it is safe. but it is really hard to follow, some days all you eat is just a cracker and some tuna...and that's it. other days you get vegetables and some chicken. but you will lose a lot of weight.
start off by going on walks, try really early in the morning like 6/7 so that you can have your metabolism working all day, and do not take naps. then you can start running

Losing that much weight would require doctor's supervision as your body will have to go through dramatic changes. Perhaps medication + proper diet + excercise can help.
I'm not sure 200+ lbs is possible, but anything would help. Good luck.
