I guess the question is ...How late is late?
Experts would say that you shouldn't eat anything at least two hours before going to bed because it will take longer for the food to digest and could result in insomnia or other sleep problems.
However, if you are diabetic for example, they would tell you that you need to eat a small snack before bedtime so that your body doesn't take the insulin from your organs but from the food it processes.
If you are looking to bulk up to do muscle building - protein power shakes are sometimes taken about an hour before bedtime.
So if you go to bed at 1:00 AM then you would stop eating at 11:00 PM.
Definitely consult your doctor just in case there is any special medical need that you have before deciding on the latenight snack.
Snacks like veggies are good for late night snack without putting on the pounds in the morning

If you are trying to lose weight many people will tell you that eating late at night is bad for you. At the end of the day though it is dark inside your body and it doesn't know what time it is, it doesn't care if it's 3am, if you are hungy your body needs fuel, even sleeping required energy so don't ignore it just because it's late. Try drinking some water first though cause you may actually just be thirsty. But at the end of the day it is eating well consistently that will help you loose weight, no one thing will cause you to gain or lose weight, you've got to do it right a majority of the time and not sweat it too much when you slip up cause in the big picture it doesn't make much difference if you're doing the right things the rest of the time.
Listen to your body, it knows what it needs, not some book. And if you're consistently hungry late at night try eating a bit more earlier in the day, or see a dietician to work out a healthy eating plan for you because everyone is different. At the end of the day though, if you needs a snack to get you through to breakfast, big deal.

yes it is. remember at night, you are really not doing much exeercise. it is not like lunch when you still have to move around and do other stuffs. dinner, is at night. usually people eat, watch a little tv, get online, finish stuff for the day and go to sleep. so the process of digestion starts when you are in bed going to sleep. so the food just sits there. after a period of time, you will end up gaining weight and wondering why you are if all you eat is healthy food.

Nope, it's not good at all. Try to eat before 7:00pm. Give yourself an hour to let your food digest and then go to bed...but late night or waking up out of your sleep to eat is really not good at all.

Yes because your body is hoping to rest. Eating before bed will make your body work at digesting whatever you ate which will probably disrupt your sleep. In addition, your body burns minimal calories at night which will increase your chances of gaining weight.

No. Only if you have already eaten way too many calories during the day. Your body does not know that you are eating at midnight - only that you are feeding it calories. If you over eat, no matter what you eat - no matter what time - you will gain weight.

yes. most food eaten late at night goes to fat cells and is stored for later use- like when you need to go on a diet!
