No. You do not have to. Obviously any pocket change you paid would be returned to you. However, if your parents do not claim you, it would be to your advantage. If you are in a college or university, you can qualify for the Hope or Lifetime learning credit. (Hope if you are in your first two years) Also, if your parents do not claim you, you can qualify for the telephone excise credit. It is basically a freebie that will get you a cool $30. It is for if you paid any long distance on a phone (whether it be cell or landline), but who's really checking. So if your parents are not or can't claim you, then it is beneficial. Free money!

No you don't. If anything was withheld for federal income taxes, if you file you'll get it refunded to you, but it might not be worth messing with for a dollar or so. If there was no federal income tax withheld, then no don't file anything
