Because it is forbidden by their religion and although we may speculate that the reason was as you have given that hypothesis may not be accurate. It probably actually has more to do with the fact that pigs are flesh eaters - Jewish people don't eat anything that eats flesh such as prawns.

Most people don't know this but one of the real reasons that Muslims don't eat pork is the fact that many pigs are actually human ancestors and therefore to eat them would be cannibalism.
In Islamic belief thousands of years ago, many men broke the sabbath and were turned into apes and and swine. This is reinforced with the fact that humans, apes and pigs have the same physical hearts.

It is amazing to see even given facts here on this post…people are still skeptical about pork meat..and some think it of as a cockeyed view not to have pork..An intelligent debate? Lol..seriously.. people who do not believe in the holy book(s)..do they believe in science..cause science follows facts ..Pig is the only Animal who would eat anything..including his own..mine yours..your neighbours S.H.I.T…would u eat an animal as healthy as that?..for a minute forget what anyone said anywhere in any book..what does your logic tell you?...the pork meat is full of cholesterol…pork fat contribute to the spread of cancers of the colon, rectum, prostate and blood. Pork contains tapeworms which may grow to a length of 2-3 meters. The growth of the eggs of these worms in the human body may lead to insanity and hysteria if they grow in the area of the brain no technology can change that..it can make it better but CANNOT eliminate it…so much knowledge and lack of faith..is sad…Even if islam HAD allowed it after reading all this I don’t think I would even go near such meat..its only common sense that we need to use really!!

same reason you don't eat dog or 100 year eggs. fact is that if you sign up for a religion you cant really opt in and out of the bits you do or do not like. i would have thought that the denial of certain sources of nutrition was an expression of faith common to many religions. it is interesting though that many of the prohibited proteins ie shellfish in Judaism and pork of course in others are renown for causing food poisoning. mind you looking at some of the answers already posted you can see why its impossible to have an intelligent debate with people who blindly accept every single word of their own particular holy book without ever challenging the sense of it. to these people we are all just kaffars (godless unbelievers) and they wont rest until the whole of the planet shares their cockeyed views

Technology can change phu as consumable?
Bacteria can be taken as life saving tablets?
How come so many people are dieing due to unknown diseases, and so called science cannot detect that disease.
God almighty told us not to use that is it, Religion is complete and given to humanity forever.
Given by God not by any Human. God Almighty knows best. If we change according to our limited wisdom denying God's words, we will be in trouble as you can witness, people of ignorant try to change Holy books and now civilization can notfind escape from wishes cycle of problems, therefore trying to manipulate or trying to justify our own mistakes.

Actually because once a habit is intigrated it is hard to shake; especially when a person and or persons feel strongly about this habit; thus Muslims don't eat pork. They; however, can eat it when they are starving and nothing else is available, if they eat it by accident that's okay too; meaning they won't go to the hell fire for it.

As they come from the same source, I'd imagine it's similar to things being kosher. Basically the only land animals that are considered kosher are those that ruminate (chew the cud). Pigs do not do this.

think of us whatever you want, but it's not technology that matters. What matters is what the religion says; what are the teachings. it was forbidden because of a number of reasons given above by a number of people.
the only difference is you question your religion-that's your belief.
we don't- it is our belief

The scriptures of all four major religions specify that pork
is not clean and is not for fit for human consumption. Read them and decide for yourselves! One must keep in mind this old saying: "Everything that glitters is not gold, also, everything that is edible is not food"! Decide for yourself after reading all the scriptures in full.........

Same reason as in Kosher (Jewish) food, same reason as Jules gave in Pulp Fiction ("The pig is a filthy animal").
As it happens I am British and I love pork (and especially sausages) and pork crackling. MMMMMMMMMM!
Pork (and beer) built England and the USA but you have to respect those who say "I just don't dig on swine".
