Why do some people never seem to get any thinner no matter what diet they go on and how little they eat. On the other hand, what about people who find themselves still on the skinny side no matter how much they eat or try to gain weight?

Well, some people have a quicker metabolism. And that's why they don't put on weight.
Metabolism is the complete set of chemical reactions that occurs in living cells. These processes are the basis of life, allowing cells to grow and reproduce, maintain their structures, and respond to their environments. Metabolism is usually divided into two categories. Catabolic reactions yield energy, an example being the breakdown of food in cellular respiration. Anabolic reactions, on the other hand, use this energy to construct components of cells such as proteins and nucleic acids.

It all lies in the metabolism.

Everyone has a different metabolism. Some increase as they age, however some decrease too. There are some people who can eat cake every day of their life and their bodies just burn it off so fast it doesn't have a chance to settle in.

I don't know how to answer this, sorry. But I'd like to know the reasoning too. I eat and I eat and I really don't gain weight.

It just isn't fair is it? I have a friend who is one of those people who can eat, and eat, and eat and stay about 15 underweight! She stayed with me for 2 months during her divorce and I gained 15 lbs. eating with her during snacks.
