Earlier there was a post asking people to share a story through the country crook website, country crook would then donate food to the needy for your story. In responce to this post several people posted "How do we know they are Christians" and "Tell them to get jobs". I'm curious as to how many christians feel they should only help each other and the rest of the world be damned.... no pun intended. Didn't Jesus say "whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me.", or am i not remembering my 13 years of Christian schooling correctly....

please don't tell me how not all christians feel this way, I am well aware. read the question clearly.... i want to know who does and why... or why you think they do.

There's some pretty vicious pseudo-Christians on here, of the fire-and-brimstone variety. They only speak for themselves, though. So don't be discouraged.

Most of the churches in my area help people regardless of their religious orientation. The Episcopalians, for instance, are well known for helping people without regard to their religion. I personally know of some Wiccans and atheists they've helped. My own church gives plenty of clothes and food to people, and nobody's asking about the religious beliefs of the recipients. Asking whether or not a charity recipient is Christian, and using that as a discriminatory factor against them, would be evil. It would fly in the face of everything Jesus taught.

You know those were parody trolls, right?

Not I. I believe what Jesus taught in Matthew 25 ("whatever you do...")

Not helping the needy and those around us contradicts Christianity. Anyone claiming to be Christian but has not helped someone in some way, is lying about their faith.

That should answer your question.

I think some Christians do feel this way because they still care only about themselves.

In the bible there are many stories where those types of people don't get into heaven because they did not truly accept Christ. If they did, they would take the initiative to help.

Should I blame Satan?
Should I blame Trolls?
Why am I making excuses for spoilt little brats (of any age)?

I do not feel superior to Christians because of the charitable works I have done.
I did not do them in the name of a God, but in the name of humanity.
Moral decency is the driving force.
Or perhaps I wasn't afraid of getting my hands dirty.

Now this is a good question.

Christians who love unconditionally, without condescension or a patronising attitude, who hope for no reward, who do not say,"I will pray for you", who are servants to all, who do not damn others:

Now they really are Christians -- a light to the world.

I'm not sure why anyone would say those things.Christians are to help everyone, whether they are Christian or not.

why is it that more atheists and alternative religious people remember that quote and live by it than Christians nowadays?
