Demons also like to speak in Latin when confronted with a catholic priest (as in movies and documented accounts). What's the deal?

No.

Catholics have been casting out demons ever since Jesus and the Apostles did it.

Modern psychology says that most of the people who had demons cast out of them were probably miraculously cured from schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. But their cures were still miracles.

The Catholic Church believes that real demonic possessions are rare but possible, so they keep a few exorcists around just in case.

With love in Christ.

Really good question.

I just love the 'real' imacatholic2's pat response to every exorcism question. It drives me batty when he/she says that possession is 'rare but possible'.

The Catholic Church is the only Church that can exorcise.

There are other faiths that "do" exorcisms however think for a minute; these people possessed (if they really are--that's another issue) those demons will do, say anything to have you stop. 'harassment' of the use of the holy name of Jesus. And that does include pretending they've left. Allowing the person possessed to become 'normal' again...in our human viewpoint.

The accounts of exorcisms by anyone other than a Catholic priest are suspect because only the Catholic church and its priest who have the Rite of Exorcism bestowed on them can perform it. These pastor of the Protestant sect are good men. They just lack the authority do perform it.

These demons know that.

The fact that Latin is used; we need to make a distinction here. There is what is known as "Classical" Latin (the romantic language) and what is know as "Ecclesiastical" Latin. The Ecclesiastical Latin is what is used by the Church. This language is very important in the Exorcism Rite. Why? Simply because it is a "dead" language, such as Hebrew and Greek. Meaning that it does not change, meanings of words remain the same forever. However languages such as English (which is considered: "vulgar" or "vernacular") change meanings--even in my own lifetime.

(One of the things that is noted with possession is that a person knows languages not on their own. That could be any language. Superhuman strength, knows Bible backwards and forwards and twists it. And hates all things sacred. Blessed.)

Latin isn't a language taught in most public schools, and even if it is--it's "Classical" not "Ecclesiastical", okay? And it is very distinct as well. Demons know all the languages of the world--current, extinct, dead, 'classical' or 'ecclesiastical'.

If you wish to read a bit about a possession regarding the differentiation of Protestant pastors versus Catholic priest please go to this link. I will say it is very long article, but interesting reading.

These occurrences are rare, but they do happen. Two books you might find very interesting are Hostage to the Devil, by Malachi Martin, and The Dogma of Hell, by Fr. F. X. Schouppe.

Hostage to the Devil deals with documented cases of real possessions and exorcisms. I suggest you take your time reading this as it put a chill in me worse than Stephen King. I haven't started The Dogma of Hell yet, but family members that are reading it tell me the chills are just as bad.

As far as exclusivity to Catholics, the answer is no. Though rare, these possessions can happen to anyone of any faith. I will add a bit of clarity here: do not take your education of Hell or demonic possessions from TV or Hollywood. You'll learn all the wrong things there. Do honest research, like with these texts, as well as reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

God bless.

In the bowels of Hell when attending Demon School Latin is the primary language. If Latin is your primary language then you want to possess a Catholic then you can have a dialogue with the priest. If you possess somebody Jewish and speak to the Rabbi in a gutteral demonic voice in Latin it will lose the effect.

Demon possessions are not limited to Catholics; however, genuine Exorcisms are limited to ordained Priests/Exorcists of the Catholic Church. Episodes that appear as exorcisms outside the Catholic Priesthood, that is by ministers of other religions or para-normalists are psychotic abberations/events. The individual may actually be possessed; but, the attempted exorcism outside the Church is futile. Christ empowered his Apostles and Desciples to cast out demons, and by succession our Bishops and Priest/Exorcists have received the very same authority to cast out demons in the name of Christ, Jesus.

No, there are many religions that claim to do exorcisms. If you google it there is a Muslim exorcism. How ever I was confused and think they were saying that it could be forgiven and could keep the girls body. I may be wrong on the last part. Exorcisms may not be real but many cases the demon speaks many different languages

Not at all. I'm Catholic, but can tell you that Bob Larson and a number of other Fundamentalist Protestants claim to do exorcisms, as well. It's not just a Catholic thing, despite the media stereotyping.

No.

When you accept Christ...you gain the power to cast out demons.

They don't only speak in Latin....some don't speak at all.

You can have a demon in your life and never know it's there...they come in forms of sickness, divorce, bankrupcy...
