Take it to a shop and have them do it. If it broke simply because it was worn , you may also need to replace the cogset.A new chain on worn cogs are prone to skipping. If it broke becasue you hit it with something or twisted it, a new chain should suffice.
New chain + labor - $50
New cogs + new chain + labor - $100 to $150
Showing you husband you can take care of these things - priceless

If the bike chain broke, it's probably because it was very old or worn. They can usually take a lot of abuse. I'd take it to a bike shop and have the make sure it doesn't need a new one first. It is never a bad idea to change a chain periodically. Just keep in mind that you may also need a new gear cluster if it has been very worn. Mending it is fairly simple depending on where in the link you broke it. A shop can either remove a link or use a connecting link to attach the two ends.

bike chains are easy to mend. All you need is a new locking link. You can pick one up from any bike store. to fix you'll need a pain of plyers and a small hammer. Mind you that once the chain broke no matter how many times you fix it it'll never be as strong as a new chain. chances are that it'll break again after a while

Do not take it to Halfords.
If you are doing it yourself, you will need a chain tool and some spare links. It might just be easier to take it to your local bike shop.
(PS Get a SRAM power link. These make it easier to clean and maintain your chain.).

They are not hard to mend...if you have the right tools and judging by your question you do not.
Usually a bike repair specialist can repair it in a minute but will charge you. Putting on a new one (if you can manage that) may be a cheaper solution.

do you mean the chain came off or it broke?......the chain has one link that you can undo but i doubt you actually broke the chain unless you belted it with an hammer............to put the chain back onto the cogs ..put the back ones on first then put as mutch as you can on the front large cog at top.then lift bike up by seat and turn pedal and it will drop back on....easy peasy

go to a bike shop and ask for a split link, they are easy to attach but if you have no clue then ask the person in the shop to show you how

Buy a new one, it's easier, and probably cheaper.
