Well, what a load of hog wash. I am a former Australian Serviceman. In the times i have come into contact with the fighting men of the USMC (ooo rah), I have witnessed nothing more than utter politeness to one and all of the community. Just because he takes up arms to defend his country or goes where he is ordered to go and kills the enemy , that does not mean he will relate that to his partner or any other civilian member of the public or his fellow Marines.

Abusers come from all walks of life, including the military.

That being said, there are many Marines who would rather fall on a live grenade than physically or emotionally harm a woman, much less a woman they are in a relationship with.

Abusers have signs and/or patterns of behavior that signify that they are/will be abusive. I have included a link below that suggests many of them. If your boyfriend/you have none of those signs, then it is very likely that you have nothing to worry about. Former military men can be quite loyal and protective towards the people they care about, and are one of the reasons why many find them so attractive.

That is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. I'm married to a Marine and so are most of my friends. None of us are being beaten. Just because he was a Marine doesn't make him abusive. I'm around Marines all the time. I work at a restaurant serving tables, and we'd rather serve them than anyone else. They are the most polite, patient people, and the best tippers. Don't let others interfere with your life with him.

I was in the USMC. I don't beat anyone.

Actually that attitude is reserved for the real enemy. Not all Marines are crazy all the time. But I'll admit, I was crazy while on active duty.

If they base this solely on his service in the Marine corp they are fools. Let them meet him so they can see that his service reflects that he is selfless, honorable, and disciplined. That describes my friends that were or are in the Marine corp.

However no woman who is with an abusive man admits that
he's exhibiting abusive behavior, except maybe after it's to late. If they have sensible arguments besides the ridiculous statement about his military service, maybe you should listen to them and think it through.

However i don't know the whole story.

Are you sure it is just because he was a marine? There must be another reason. I have talked to people about the marines and I haven't heard that one. I have heard that many marines have a funny way about them. That the Marines breaks a man down then re programs him more then any other military.
Most marines have there own way of thinking that's for sure.

I say come up with a smart aleck response to shoot right back at them. Something that will shut them up fast.

When people ask what I'd do if my husband died in Iraq, I tell them whatever I want, I'd have $400k in life insurance! I of course don't mean it, but I figure a rude question deserves a rude answer. I'd think of something similar and have it ready to throw back at people every time they say something rude and ignorant like that.

As a former Marine, this question is very offensive to me. And I really don't get offended easily.

Your friends should quit making judgements about people they obviously don't have any interaction with.

Why would you think he will beat you at the 1st place? Guys who beat up women aren't worthy to be love at all no matter what the reason are. If in any case it actually happen , call your local police , end of story . And yeah, tell everyone and i mean everyone abt him so he will be known of his crimes

Marines only beat the crap out of each other when they get to teasing too hard. Then they'll go have a beer together. The ones asking you this question are stupid.
