Read these verses carefully.

John 20:27-29

27 Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.

28 Thomas said to him, *****My Lord and my God!*****

29 Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

John 14:7-9
7If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."

9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? ****Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.**** How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

John 17:1-5 Your own verse proves that he was with God even before the world began!

1After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

As far as Luke 18:18, Jesus was also a teacher, so they called him that too. (those who didn't know he was the Messiah) He also said later on in verse 22 for the man to 'come and follow me'. Jesus was talking to the man. Why would Jesus ask the man to follow Him? Because he is God.

First the passage is John 17:1-5 which records Jesus praying.

Luke 18:18 is a rich man's question.

Neither one of these quotes proves or disproves that Jesus is a member of the Holy Trinity.

Matt 28:19 is the Christian basis of the Holy Trinity. This verse and this verse alone is the biblical justification.

Answer: You need to read the entire text in context. What you think you have is really nothing. If you want to prove Jesus is not God, you have to get around Matt 28:19

Haven't heard of the trinity huh? Well I'll explain it as best I can, but I'm a little rusty. Ok, You have one God, but the one one God manifests himself in three persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All three seperate, but all three the same God. Also all three are equal, God is equal to Jesus, who's equal with the Holy Spirit. Confusing isn't it? The only verse that comes to mind about Jesus' divinity is John 1:1 but there are many more. Also, if you don't have the trinity then you have to believe that Jesus is the son of the Holy Spirit and not God the Father, and non of us wanna deal with that.

Read John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God". John 20:28, "And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God". Also, Acts 9:3-5. Also, John 8:58

Jesus said that God is His father. He often referred to God this way. He also said that He is in His father and that His father is in Him (John 14:9-11). He is God's Son and also God Himself. Jesus showed His authority over nature - for example by calming a storm. He also declared sins forgiven. He showed He was (and is) God. So, He is God the Son, and His father is God the Father. They are also one (there is only one God). It isn't a surprise that we can't fully explain this because it's God we're discussing and we're only human.

Jesus is God. There are three forms of God - all are one. God is a Spirit, Jesus was God in the flesh, and the Holy Ghost is God who lives inside of us now. (The comforter that Jesus sent to us when he arose...)

Your question/comment is a bit confusing, but I'm assuming from reading your reference texts, that you seek to prove that Jesus is not God.

By your first text, you seem to imply that Jesus isn't God because He referred to God as a separate being. But if you notice, He also referred to Himself in third person - in the very same text. Your theory might work, if God was one entity - but He is not. There are three to the Godhead - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They have clearly defined roles, but are one of mind, purpose, and status. A concept we may not fully grasp in this life - but true, nonetheless.

By your second text, you seem to imply that Jesus isn't God, because of His response to the ruler. He asked him "Why do you call me good?" and said "No one is good but One, that is, God." So would you say, then - that Christ was not good? Of course He was good; He never sinned. It is clear that His statement was something like food for thought, and meant something other than you imply. Just as you may ask someone a rhetorical or silly question, to make a point (for lack of a better analogy, right now).

How can I be confident of my stance? Because I base it on the Word of God, and there is a proper way to study it. The Bible is deep, multi-dimensional, and rich with wisdom and knowledge. Some things are right there, clear as day - others take a little more study and digging. That is good. We tend to appreciate things we work for - and its good exercise for the mind. One should never base a doctrine off of one text in the Bible. You must consider context, at all times. You must search for everything the Bible has to say on that topic, and compare verses. Those which are not as clear, or a little confusing - are balanced out by the ones which are quite clear. The sum of them makes for a proper conclusion. This with the requested help of the Holy Spirit to guide us aright; being sure our hearts are open to receive truth, without prejudice.

"Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those just weaned from milk? Those just drawn from the breasts? For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little." Isaiah 28:9, 10

Here are some texts which make the truth very plain, that Jesus is God, that God is the Trinity (three in one, the Godhead) - and in case its an issue for you - that Christ was/is indeed good, and without sin:

"I and My Father, are one." John 10:30

"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men. An being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:5-11

"For there are three which bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one." 1 John 5:7

An example that Jesus is the Word:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it...And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.'" And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." John 1:1-5, 14-17

"Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 4:14, 15

I understand the initial strangeness of this idea, because I experienced it. We are used to relating to Christ's humanity. But He was as fully God, as He was human. He simply denied himself the advantage, in order to fulfill His purpose, for our sakes. Change isn't easy for most people - especially spiritually. But God will continually lead you into more truth, for we never stop learning. We must be willing to follow, if it agrees with the Word of God.
