You really need to check with the airline. You can ask--they've had the question before.
Different airlines... and different kinds of tickets on any given airline... have different rules.
That's the best I or anyone else on here can do.

It all depends on the type of ticket you have and the rules that apply with it. First of all, is it an economy class ticket? Business? First class? The more expensive the ticket (in general) the more lenient the rules. Check with your travel agent or the airlines directly.
In general, airline tickets must be canceled prior to the actual flight date in order for it to maintain its value. (In general) it will be valid a year from the date it was actually purchased and also must be used or completely flown by the expiry date. So if you bought your ticket May 21 for travel date 14Jun - 17 Aug, you have to cancel it before 14 Jun to keep the credits. You have until May 21 2008 t use the credits but the new flight dates must also be within that period. This is if your ticket is nonrefundable. By the way, there wil be penalty fees involved.
Of course, if you have a refundable ticket, by all means, cancel it and just have it refunded.
But, do check the actual rules of your ticket as what I have mentioned were just general rules and not applicable to all airlines.

If you purchase a airline ticket and at the least minute you couldn't go on the date of the ticket, the airline will give you a credit of the value of that ticket. Mostly likely you will not get a refund back but the value of that ticket is good from one year from the date of that ticket. That means if you plan to use that ticket you would have to fly before the one year is up.
If you decide to fly again, the airline will determine the cost of that trip and deduct that from your credit of your ticket. You might have to pay a bit more a small fee or difference to your destination because of the change.

You need to check with the airline. Normally, if it's non refundable, you can reuse the ticket (and there will normally be a fee involved) up to a year from the purchase date. But you need to check out the policy of Croatia Airlines. Policies differ by carrier.

I cannot vouch for Croatia Airlines, but most airlines will let you change the ticket within one year. But you would have to pay a service fee, and if your new trip was more expensive you would also have to pay the additional cost.
If you were to cancel because you, or an immediate family member - parent, grandparent, brother, sister, or child - became ill most airlines will conside a full refund, but you would need to provide a note from the doctor.

Refund - and rebooking conditions depend on the tarif you have. Some are non refundable, some can be rebooked against a fee before departure ( you have to rebook it before your original traveldate , in case of no show there's normally no refund/rebooking possible ).
You should call them and ask them to inform you about the conditions of yr ticket.
Have a nice day
