I am a Filipino mother who gave birth in the U.S. Now that we are here in the Philippines, we need to file a Recognition or Dual Citizenship for my son so he can stay here legally. We are thinking whether we should file a RECOGNITION or DUAL CITIZENSHIP for my son. What are the advantage and disadvantages on each? Appreciate your help. Thanks

weell, to be honest, dula citizenship in the US is illigal, all though as long as they dont know your fine. i know someone who has dual citizenship in mexico and here. they jsut dont tell anyone. if hes a philipino citizen he'll have to give it up to become a us citizen. if he is a us citizen and you want philipines citizen ship too youd have to do it there.

Recognition means that your son will become a Filipino citizen while dual citizenship will mean that your son will be a Filipino citizen in the Philippines but an American citizen when in the US.

If he is a US citizen he has to forfeit his citizenship to the US to become a citizen of another country. I would recommend recognition because forfeiting American citizenship is not a very good thing to do for your child.
