I don't see anything wrong with that.

I believe you have the percentage overstated a bit, but you are right, we do share a majority of our DNA with many other species of animals. You will even find some in common with vegetable matter as well.
Still, look at the beauty of this. DNA is the coding of life. It is HOW God designed life on Earth to work. It makes sense that all of the life on Earth should share this same structure.
Much of the human genome is of unknown use. The DNA sequences in many of our genes may be "junk" or portions that have been superceded by other, newer parts.
At any rate, since the similarities are so close, it would lead me to believe in creation rather than evolution. Creation because it is all so very similar. You would think there would be more differentiation over the vast amount of time we are thinking about.

Maybe the percentage of DNA compared to just how different we really actually are from them at the end of the day (looks; intellect) drives the point home, in terms of how different we are from the animal kingdom. Even the ones with a DNA similarity of "97%" turn out to be far less than us when it comes to intellect and appearance.
I won't go into the intricacies of human intelligence. Too much to type, but we are more complex than chimpanzees, and even A.I.
Actually, I just thought of one example: Music. Name one group of chimpanzees or one group of computers that has made even one song that people like.

ok then by your logic, things higher on the DNA strand evolved from things lower on the DNA strand. Humans have 30% DNA of a banana. by your logic apes and humans evolved from bananas
i'm not saying this proves creationism either, that is just crazy to think earth is 6,000 years old
all just theories until 100% proof, why are people afraid to say, we don't know 100% about evolution
i think it is very plausible that species adapt and overcome over time, but has there ever been a new species come from an existing species? if someone else knows i would be curious

The amount of genetic information in a human being is enormous! So huge that 3 present of it is a vast amount.
That being said, if you looked at the computer code for Windows XP and MacOS you'd find that many of the algorithms are the same, much of the code would look exactly the same.
Advanced programming languages have classes - engineers have discovered the best way to write a function and then they reuse that code in all of their programs.
I think that like a programmer, God developed the perfect genetic "code" to do certain tasks - like make a heart pump, or make a pancreas secrete insulin. Is it such a stretch to think God reused that code between different animals and between humans and animals?
After all, it's not our bodies that separate us from the animals, it is the breath of life that God breathed into our spirit!

The fact that we share 97% DNA with chimpanzees doesn't mean a thing. So what if we have some of the same DNA. WE are unique and we are far from different from any other creature.

If I ask a contractor to build a house and a church across from each other, do you suppose you can tell me which is the church and which is the house by looking? Want to bet he uses the same building materials for both. They look different, they have different functions, yet most of the materials are the same. Do you suppose that similar designs might mean the same designer?

I am a Christian and I believe in evolution. They don't have to be mutually exclusive. The bible doesn't say that we didn't evolve from monkeys (or chimps, apes whatever it may be) You can not be sure that something didn't happen if it hasn't been specifically ruled out. Add that to all the scientific evidence supporting evolution. It's simple. God created monkey (or whatever monkeys evolved from) then we evolved from them.

Because if you get the species to match up any closer you get hybrids -- and you really really don't want a child by a chimp. Trust me on that one.
