I'm doing a project for myself, since I'm somewhat artsy-fartsy in which I'm working with scotch tape, since I'm out of duct tape. I'm making a messenger-bag out of tape.
I plan on painting the bag with acrylics after I'm done so It looks cool and it isn't see-through.

Will the paint stay nicely or will it chip off and not stay?
This is my first time doing this, so I don't know.

Would it be better to airbrush it instead of painting it?

It's the media (type of paint,) not the method (painted on vs. airbrushed on) that makes the difference. I 've tried to get paint to stick to Scotch tape to no avail (except when I don't want it to stick.) You could try using an artists' primer to see if it would help, but a taped bag is not likely to last for long. Now, if this is just for one special event -go for it, it should last that long, any way. But for a season -I doubt it. If you are a very careful person it might last for a while. I'd love to see what you are doing and how it comes out. It sounds like so much fun. I'm rooting for you.

the paint can and will chip off.
the only thing i have used that will stay on scotch tape is permanent marker. sharpie makes a lot of different colors, i'd use those.
