ok, I see all this "Modern" ninjitsu or "American Ninjitsu".. WHY?!? all I see is WAY more effort than is needed to take out an opponent, NO stealth training, and the very essence of true ninjitsu is totally lost to gymnastics and looking cool while kicking your opponent's butt and humiliating them by doing a gymnastic routine on their helpless body.. I guess my main question is.. why do all the ninja schools teach more cliches about ninjitsu than the actual form they claim it's taken from (IE the style handed down from the Koga centuries ago)?

I'm very skeptical about what's passed off as koga ryu as well. I think fact and fiction concerning were hopelessly mixed up during the Edo period. Hence the modern idea of a ninja outifit is a stagehands uniform. Jika-tabi weren't even invented until the 1920's, so there's another invention.

It can be great for the movies. There was a show, fight science, that showed a guy who learned Ninjitsu. Is movements were concise and presice. He seemed to be able to use the fighting elements quite easy. His balance was better than most as well. That is something he will have for his entire life (thus improving his health)... and he can say, Hey, I'm a ninja! Flashy stuff is used for the movies...
As a friend said to me, you maybe able to beat me up, but I get the movie part, you won't.
Yea, there are always schools trying to make money. That is a reality.

Ninjutso is not just about stealth techniques. You learn to use some weapons, for example shurikens (although surikens are more common at shurikendo), tantos, kammas, and other weapons, EVERYONE likes using weapons. Also, ninjutso is a martial art usefull for self defence, instead of just punching and kicking, ninjutso teaches blocking, counter-attacking, and moves to attack certain weak parts of the body. Finally the balance, the martial art which focuses most on the balance is the ninjutso, and balance is well used in lots of real life cases.

Good question, most of the ninja schools today are FAKE !!!
Most that claim to teach the koga ryu style are FAKES !!!
The few schools that teach anything real, are just that - few.

You can look at it from two different perspectives, one obviously is money. And second, to perserve the art. Take your pick. It depends on the instructor of the school.

All the ninjas actually disappeared because that's what ninjas do. You won't find the real ninjutsu because IT'S THE REAL NINJUTSU!

The point is very simple: MONEY. It's a fraud designed to separate the gullible from their money.
