Fecal impaction, divertculosis? I had it performed on me and the doctor simply said I did not have a bowel obstruction. By passing this test does it automatically mean that I have none of the above? The doctor was a very unagreeable person, I wasn't able to discuss much with him. Anyone know?

Yes, a fecal impaction would be confirmed as the scope would be unable to pass the fecal barrier.

Diverticulosis would also be confirmed by the scope as well.

Not having a fecal impaction does not mean that you did not have diverticulosis.

You can always call and request a copy of the Operative Report and the Pathology report if any Biopsies were taken.

Get a better doctor. Sigmoidoscopy should reveal faecal impaction or diverticular disease in the lower end of your bowel only (a colonoscopy will show more). There are other tests you could undergo such as a barium enema which may assist diagnosis. It's not a particularly pleasant procedure, but no worse than a sigmoidoscopy.

If you are having problems, still, find a good doctor and have a colonoscopy done. This looks at the entire colon instead of just the lower part.

I had one and it confirmed diverticulosis. Those guys are a little wierd but I guess that we'd probably be weird if we had that job.
