"A cult is a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Many cults follow a living human leader, and often their adherents live in groups apart from the rest of society. The standard for what is orthodox, however, should be God’s Word, and Jehovah’s Witnesses strictly adhere to the Bible. Their worship is a way of life, not a ritual devotion. They neither follow a human nor isolate themselves from the rest of society. They live and work in the midst of other people."
-- Reasoning

They are the only ones who really respect what the Bible says and who preach going from door to door as Jesus said.

All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work." -- 2 Thimothy 3:16, 17

"Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit." -- Matthew 28:19

"And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus." -- Acts 5:42

They are warm people who manifest a sincere love and interest towards their brothers and sisters (and not only). Interestingly, the Bible says that Jesus' true disciples will manifest love.

“By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.” -- John 13:35

Even being persecuted, they don't give up to their faith.

"Then people will deliver YOU up to tribulation and will kill YOU, and YOU will be objects of hatred by all the nations on account of my name." -- Matthew 24:9

"I have given your word to them, but the world has hated them, because they are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world." -- John 24:14

Stop picking on Jehovah's Witnesses.

I grew up as one.

They are a well-meant Christian group that is highly organised on a worldwide level for disseminating their magazines that are printed on a wide range of subjects giving glory to God and some absurd "back-chat" to historians etc. who possibly take the religion with a bemused grain of salt.

At least their magazines are pleasant to look at if you ignore the piccys of people during Armaggedon. You can use them for school projects if you have any given to you - flamingoes, all sorts of animals etc. They're creationist.

Don't try to treat a Jehovah's Witness according to what you've heard about their religion - same for Muslims or anybody I think. All you'll be doing is reinforcing the systematised parts of their beliefs. That could be a good thing, I suppose. Then they will see it. But otherwise, it might just send them back to the people they usually speak to when they have doubts.

I love them...they are my brothers and sisters. We are not a cult. we are Christians. We do believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that he died so that we might gain everlasting life. We follow Jesus footsteps closely. Those that are seeking a true relationship with God, and that he draws to himself, will keep on seeking the truth until they gain accurate knowledge. That is why we continue to call on people as long as there is still time.

Matthew 24:14: "And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come."

Matthew 28: 19 & 20: " Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”

I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I believe we have the truth because everything we believe, we base it on the Scriptures. We are most certainly not a cult, and we do believe in Jesus. (I must say that I'm getting a little sick of people saying that we don't believe in Jesus.)

To the answerer above me, the 144,000 DO NOT get special privileges. Whether or not they have the heavenly hope is a matter between them and Jehovah, and it is not for any human to decide.

They are members of a xtian denomination. They believe in much of the same things that other xtian denominations believe in. One of my best friends is a Jehovah's Witness. She likes to dance (country two step and rock n' roll) She sings country music at a local dance. She likes an occasional drink. Her husband hunts and fishes. Her dad plays the drums and they are cool people. They do not personally go around to peoples houses but do attend church. They are just people. I don't like them knocking on my door.

They are entitled to freedom of worship like anyone else. I live about 3 blocks from a Jehovah's Witness church. I put a note on my front door, "no soliciting, please", because I work nights and sleep in the daytime. They have always respected that and never disturbed me.

They knock on my door and piss me off. Many consider them a cult due to their extremely elitist views and the exclusiveness of their religion. They don't join the armed forces, don't like blood transfusions, and are generally snobs. If someone in their religion commits a sin they must be disowned by all other witnesses, including close family. This creates an inability to break out of the religion. So yeah, it's a cult.

They are a copy of the Jewish Cult that separated themselves some 1900 years ago

Talking to one of my regular passengers, whose a Rabbi, I would say most Christians have much the same problem with JWs that ancient Jews had with the first Christians who they viewed as having been started by an uneducated ex-carpenter of the Jewish Lower Class who was executed for cause by the governing authority. The only education he had was by Mary and Joseph, in the view of the Jews, he made up most of what he said.

He recruited other uneducated, lower class individuals, such as a failed fisherman (Peter) and a hated tax collector (Matthew).

Lacking any formal education, they were easy to manipulate into believing he was the Messiah, something that was impossible, as he did not bring about the destruction (Armageddon) of the enemies of the Truly Blessed People of God, the Israelites, as was prophesied.

After his lawful execution, these clearly brainwashed followers began going door to door telling their brethren that the traditional beliefs, rituals, and observances (holidays), dating back hundreds of years, were no longer valid.

They began creating their own scriptures, to support their false beliefs, instead of relying on the Holy Torah, which had sustained God’s People for hundreds of years.

Finally, there were highly educated individuals, especially in the religious arts, such as Saul of Tarsus, who could clearly prove that they were a false cult, bent on leading God’s People down a false path to destruction.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_of_Tarsus

What happened to them, as a result of their false teachings, and their door to door work, was only to be expected of people who have lost their way.

Clearly, what you may or may not think of JWs is reliant on your point of view, just as it was in those first years. Having an advanced education in religion does not mean that you are right, only that you sound that way.

JWs may have come from a simple, and some times, erratic beginnings, but at least they are making a valid effort to do better. You cannot say that for other religions who:

Continue to get involved in politics;

Lie to the IRS about not doing so in order to get their non-profit status;

Avoids paying taxes on retail sales within the church;

Allows immorality to creep into the church;

Immortalizes their founders through the observance of a birthday, death, and/or anniversary of the founding of the church;

Places a pictures of the founders in all their churches, so that all can see and pay obeisance;

Gives tacit approval to the Theory of Evolution; and

Doesn’t teach their followers to preach and teach the Bible, as Christ instructed.

It's not a matter of love or hate....it's a matter about what is the truth...and they have twisted what is true into what they want what God is saying to mean.

So stick to the truth in God's Word which was written by eye witnesses of Jesus, and the old testament prophets who God told what to write.

Jehovah's Witness teachings are a lie...and yes, I would call them a cult....

God's truth is not about "religion". It is about knowing God in a personal relationship...which He wants to have with you.
Jesus, God's Son said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father (God), but by Me". Jesus provided the way for eternal life, and forgivness of our sins (which separate us from a Holy God). Only through Jesus' death and resurrection (which is the message of Easter), can anyone be saved.

The message from God is very clear. Don't let the Jehovah's witnesses add to this message...or anyone else. Listen to what God Himself has to say. The message is so simple, many people miss it....and it is so clear a child can find Him. John 3:16...."For God so loved the world (everyone) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever (anyone) who believeth on Him (Jesus) should not perish (in hell) , but have eternal Life (forever). All you do is ask Jesus to be your personal Saviour and forgive your personal sin, and it is a promise. He forgives and gives you in exchange eternal salvation. And no one can take you out of His hand. It is awesome...and real...and He changes your life!

I can tell you it is true...and it works! So do some investigation and find out about Jesus and the God of the Bible. He is alive and well....and real!
