Dr. Sam is right, even with professional cameras, one size does not fit all. It depends on if you're doing studio work or shooting sports, etc. And although pros are as gear crazy as the rest of us, they buy cameras as a business investment - they won't get the latest & greatest unless that's what they absolutely need to get the job done.
Still, if I had to name just one camera, it would be the Canon 1Ds Mk ll: metal body, 17 megapixels, 3 frames per second, $7000. Reserve another $7000 for lenses.
The 1Ds Mk ll is in stock here, in case you want to place an order (or just look at the specs): http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=Search&A=details&Q=&sku=354004&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
Runners up: the Nikon D2Xs (12 megapixels, 8 frames per second, $4250) and the new Canon 1D Mk lll (10 megapixels, 10 frames per second, $4500).

It all depends on what you mean by "best." Highest resolution? Best image quality? Most durable? most reliable? Most lenses available? Highest burst rate? Longest lasting battery?

Tell us what you are looking for in a camera, what you plan to use it for, and we can give you a meaningful answer.
