My son an Army Captain & Ranger. He is brave, well trained. dedicated to keeping his unit safe & willing to sacrifice even his life for his country & democracy.
All military men who join for love of country & freedom are the best soldiers. they are selfless in their service & I am proud of them

The answer you wanted is the United States - they are the largest number of well trained soldiers in the world today

Depends on the mission, however The Australian Special Air Service Regiment rates as one of the best if not THE best.
Why?
First of all being a smaller country, in an in heriently unstable regoin they have to be.
Second is how they train and the variety of different places (aforded by the sheer size of Oz and the vareity of climates and terrian) that they have available to train in. Add to that, SAS training is more grueling and longer than any other special forces unit in the world save the british SAS and many of the recruits (who have to have been in the regular army for a few years and have attained the rank of Corporal) wash out, some have died.
Third experience and learning from it. The SASR has fought in nearly every major and minor campaign from WW2 to the current war in Iraq and Afganistan (They were some of the very first troopers in country in both theaters) From this they have a lot of hard won combat knowledge of what works and what doesn't which in turn has become instutitional knowledge that is passed through the ranks.
Third there is something to be said for the determination and charactor of Aussies (pronounced Ozzie for Americans) they can make something from nothing and will not stop untill the job is done. By this it is meant that the average Aussie soldier is more multi skilled than most (This comes from having a small and not so well equiped Defence force in the past though things are vastly different now) and as Australian society is quite "inventive" the SASR has mastered, indead poineered many new and emerging technologys/tactics on the battlefeild alot of the time with out the high tech gagetry of other Armys. Thease days of course the ADF is equiped as well as any in the world so it gives them more of an edge as they still retian the older methods as back up, so thus are still able to operate effectivly with out the tech.
Fifth, Reputation.
Just ask the Viet Cong or the Taliban how much they enjoyed meeting an Aust SAS unit in combat and ask them who they feared the most a battalion of American troops or a Squadron of SAS?

To conclude, the SAS trooper is tough, knows how to use his knowledge and training to his advantage, can improvise if the shite hits the fan, can formulate and execute tactics on the fly, can use tecnology or lack there of to advantage, can survive off of the land and fight to any objective even if seperated from the main uint, most of all they just plain whoop *** in the most proffessional manner possible.

Its too easy to say the US or the Brits, as the have the weaponary etc. I think the Afghanis are the best in the world. EVEN admitted by the British and the American soldiers, watch their interviews. They wear only a sheet of clothing, and a turban, a pair of sandles. They sleep in the mountain rocks, eat only bread and vinegar once a day. Their dedication ousted the USSR and the British. They follow orders to the point and they never retreat from battle.

That is a really tough one. Environment has alot to do with the fighting ability of every nations soldier. Not to toot our own horn, but the US can deploy soldiers, trained in that specific envirionment anywhere in the world.

The Australians have a great force, and most European countries are excelent as well, but a force will always fight at 100% when fighting on there own turf. Afganistan vs. USSR for example.

The United states military. Any branch!

I'm personally biased towards the Army because that is what I am in. However I would say a soldier that lives by the Army values is a good solider.

Loyalty
Duty
Respect
Selfless Service
Honor
Integrity
Personal Courage

the best soldiers in the world are those who are loyal to their country as well as unity. They can fight in a very bad military conditions. When I am saying bad military conditions it means that they can fight with hunger, not proper weapons, not equal with their enemies at all in any aspect at all. Some have mentioned Americans, British etc, are they really have full filed these qualities? But I can count Afghan as the best soldiers in the world that with hunger, simple guns, very bad military conditions fought with British and Russians and defeated them as well. They had strong faith and nonacceptance for invaders and foreigners to their country.

No one knows what they look like, no enemy has ever survived to tell.

Ever hear of Tahiti being successfully invaded ??

Didn't think so.
