How do you feel about Thomas Paine saying this!!!!!

"The Bible is a book that has been read more, and examined less, than any book that ever existed"

Also

"The Bible: a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalise mankind"

"Priests and conjurors are of the same trade"

"Yet this is trash that the Church imposes upon the world as the Word of God; this is the collection of lies and contradictions called the Holy Bible! this is the rubbish called Revealed Religion!"

I agree with him, it's more sought upon because of the NEED to give the bible respect in fear you will offend someone. Truth is, The bible is assumed to be true without question, so it was never truly analyzed, it's way outdated, many things now have an explanation (you can't fit all those damn animals in one crappy wooden boat)!, PROOF, FAKE. Live your life the way you intended, not by a book that not even 1/3 of the worlds population follows!, live your life and have fun, make mistakes and stop worrying

Yes Mr Thomas Paine has a strong evidence that the contents of the holy Bible are full of contradictions. This conclusion is the same with a reseach conducted by Irene Handono formerly an Indonesian catholic that 90% of Bible contents are false. It is stated in her book Islam Claimed or Islam Menghujat..It is also in line with Allah spoke in the holy Qur'an that the Torach and Bible are changed by certain people so it is not genuine anymore as has been given by God through Moses and Jesus. prophets. So why they believe blatantly to the false holy books? These books have been updated by Allah the only one God and replaced by a complete and genuine holy book called Al Qur'an.

Hello, New Musk:

It is entirely logical for someone who had left Europe with its religious conflicts to have that attitued. Let us remember, that the Pilgrims first left England, too--were not received too well in Holland, so migrated to the U.S. Yes, Christianity has made a mess of their God-given mission to tell the world about their Savior.

Thomas Jefferson had a similar attitude. He even rewrote the New Testament, eliminated all Christ's miracles, and reduced Him to a Plato. Jefferson even studied the Qur'an and once said: "I am not against religion, but against what religion has done." Don't you think many intelligent people on Yahoo-Answers fit that catagory, too?

Yes, I, too, was one of those agnostics. No one gave me an intelligent reason to believe, and with an estimated 100 million people killed by Christians, who wants it.

However, I learned that God calls us when He is ready, and reveals Himself to those of a humble heart--he has enough boastful hypocrites in church.

I promised God that I would never trust a preacher, or tell a lie to to support church doctrines. As I read through 10 different translation, I realized God did not want us to put our trust in man, either (Psalms 118:8,9).

God does not want anyone to exercise blind faith either, but gives us proof--it's there in His Word. Also, one final attempt to reach skeptics was hidden in a Bible code, the only part of the Bible that says "these words are closed until the end of the days."

It is for the wise--and proves Jesus as the Messiah, among other things. See: www.revelado.org/revealed.htm

Blessings in Christ

First I do not consider TP a founding father.
Second in his day the Bible wasn't read or examined by the average person, today people dissect it.
Third yes it does have a wicked history those were the times. I don't believe it was suppose to brutalize humans, but humans use it as an excuse to brutalize each other.
TP did have issues with the church and he let his personal issues mix with his political. But he was entitled to his opinion.

I've read Thomas Paine's "Common Sense"
He was a flake deluxe. He went to France during the French revolution because he wanted the downthrow of all religious authority and monarchical lines. He was not sympathetic to the French means however and he was just as outspoken there. The only problem was he was locked in the Bastille by the French for speaking out.
On balance, Thomas Paine was a child of the "enlightenment" and his philosophies for the most part were poorly thought out and belong on the trash heap of history.

Thomas Paine has his own opinion everyone is entitled to it, some ppl when they read the bible believe its a horror book especially revelations and Daniel but to me its a book about the way life is. If we were to try to get to heaven on are own merits we wouldn't make it that's why god sent his son to save us from our sins so we can get to heaven and yes there is gonna be torments, stress , test, horror and today the bible is the most examine of all books

One day every head will bow and every knee will bend to honor God. Unfortunately it will be to late for those who don't trust God now. Even Darwin believes in God now and knows the bible is God and the true word of God. And I have analyzed the word of God and found it true And know that Jesus is the fulfillment of every new testament prophesy about the coming Messiah the savior for all the world

Boy, he would have been a fun one for the forum. What do you think his avatar would be?

All this tells me is that the kind of disagreements that are so amusing to read and share in here have been going on for a good long time.

sounds like he doesn't know any christians. ;)
especially when he said
"The Bible is a book that has been read more, and examined less, than any book that ever existed"

The rest of it lacks examples or backing information, so all in all I feel sorry for him, since he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about.

So if Christians give you Thomas Paine, you will give them the hundreds of other "founding fathers" who breathed, ate, and slept the Bible?

I think we should forget what any of the founding fathers said and figure it out for ourselves. That was over 200 frick'n years ago.
