I drink bottled water 'cause it's convenient on the road, often I refill the bottle at home though. I've long known it's often tap water and not 100% pure, I don't care, it's still easier on the road.
Btw, I'm not sure what this has to do with etiquette, unless it's business ethics.

Well, in other countries their tap water is either contaminated, or *was* contaminated up until 30 years go, so they're still weary about tap water.
However, here in America, bottled water is a convenience. You're driving somewhere and you get thirsty. Well, hell! Y'aren't gonna go speeding on back home, now are you? No! That'd be stupid! You go into a gas station and you buy the bottled water. Which, I agree, is basically cold tap water with maybe one or two grains of sodium in it (for the flavored water).

That's right water is water. It doesn't matter where you get it from. They have found that it all contains the same stuff and that water from the tap is probably better for you. Being on water restrictions I don't care what water I drink so long as I get some - I can't survive without it.

In my neck of the woods, the water is naturally fluoridated. We are actually above our state's normal allowed levels, though not too far. Infants and children whose permanent teeth haven't come in yet have to drink bottled water. The water won't harm them, but their teeth would be permanently stained brown from the fluoride. On top of that they started chlorinating the water heavily some years ago, so it sometimes smells/tastes pretty strong from the tap.
So I happily buy bottled water.

depends on which area you are from as to how your water tastes. State law mandates that tap water has a chlorine residual to make sure its safe to drink. Bottled water is usually tap water that has been filtered to get the chlorine taste out.

Ther are circumstances where it makes sense-in certain areas of west Texas you can't even use tap water on plants-they die. However, I think it's funny when people ***** about gas prices while they drink WATER that averages $6 a gallon!
