After I wash my hair and I comb it out to wrap it, a lot of hair ends up in my comb. I don't miss it because my hair is thick but I was wondering why. I use a wide tooth comb to detangle it. I also get my ends trimmed when I get my hair relaxed which is every two-three months. Any suggestions as to what I could do differently?
Also, any idea as to why when I wash my hair, I usually have to wash it three time before the shampoo foams?

Hair naturally sheds everyday. You may want to pay attention to how you are combing your hair out. When you comb it out, make sure you start detangling at the ends first and work your way up. Because your hair is thick I would part it in sections. Also try using a really good leave in conditioner to help with the combing out process.
As far as the shampoo is concerned, you may have a lot of product build-up and it depends on how often you wash your hair. If you use a lot of gel in your hair, then you need to rinse your hair pretty well before the first lather to get as much build-up off the hair. Shampooing the hair too much can remove the natural oils that the hair produces which will cause breakage and shedding.
Hope this helps.

how often do you wash your hair? i have the same issue with it not foaming until the 2nd wash. i think its because i wash my hair once or twice a week because i'm mexican and have thick curly hair that will dry out easily. its because of the natural oil that builds up on hair between washing, and also because of any conditioners or oils you may use on a daily basis. its kind of the same idea as a greasy pan not foaming with the dish soap right away. as for the hair coming out, you're either washing too often or conditioning too little, or both. use a deep conditioning mask right after you wash and see if you notice any difference, but just keep in mind it is normal to lose some hair. it falls out daily and probably stays among your other hair until you wash and comb it, so if you dont wash often it appears that you're losing tons of hair at once, more so than someone who washes everyday.

Your avatar and the reference to relaxing suggest that you're a woman of color. Repeated relaxing can be hard on the hair and cause it to break off, as can frequent braiding/updos or the use of extensions.
If you're losing hair at the root, that could be a number of things, from a recent pregnancy (you'll lose a bunch of hair for several weeks after you give birth) to an underactive thyroid (your doc can perform a blood test for this condition.) If your hair is generally in good condition and you're not seeing bald patches on the scalp (or losing brows/eyelashes/other body hair) it's probably not anything to worry about - just styling and processing damage.

Same thing happens to me.. I have curly hair so believe me when i say i loose a lot hair when i have to detangle it!.. Nothing to worry about, hair loss is normal. It’s part of the natural cycle of your hair. Depending on how much hair you have the average amount of hair loss is approximately 40 to 125 strands a day.
By some estimates there are up to 300,000 strands of hair on the average scalp. Also keep in mind that you are growing new hair in the process. The root of each hair is embedded in your scalp in a hair follicle. The hair goes through a growing phase of approximately three years. This is followed by a resting phase of several months. Then the resting hair falls out and new hair begins to grow in its place.

Daily hair loss is normal ... 100 strands per day is not uncommon. If you under a lot of stress, that can also contribute to it. I wouldn't worry : )!
As for the shampoo foaming ... I find that hard water vs soft water makes a big difference ... do you have a water softener? If not, that may be the cause.

Some medications are known to cause hair to fall out. Wellbrutin (for depression) is one that is suspected. Too, do you have hard water? Soaps, shampoos, and the like do not lather as well when hard water is used. In other words, the characteristics of your water (chlorinated, mineralized or fluoridated) can determine how well (or poorly) your shampoo and conditioning routine works.

All I know is my wife has the same issue. She loses hair constantly. So it isn't as though you have cancer or anything... it is normal.
Why does it happen?
I suppose it is because it doesn't take a lot of tension to pull out hair. If a single hair is pulled on (by itself) it will come out really easy. If you brush your hair, it should (in theory) be pulling out multiple single hairs. Which results over the course of brushing, as a whole lot of hair.

A lot of It probably comes out before you comb it, but the act of combing brings it out. Hair falls out. Unless your hair is thinning, I wouldn't worry about it.
