I would say the most ancient form of magic would probably resemble more folk magic then anything. Remember that the first people lived close to the land, and based their form of worship and Divine understanding from what they learned from the earth.
Although folk magic is often called low magic - it is anything but. Folk magic is simple yet very powerful. It is beautiful in its simplicity. In it holds the belief that all is sacred - for all is in the presence of God. All is created by God and all holds the Divine spark of life.
Not all magic now-a-days has to do with connecting to the Divine. A lot of people practice magic to gain control in their lives yet are self proclaimed atheists. Do I believe it was always this way? Not at all. A lot of magic and ritual was done so that one could draw close to the Divine. Be encased in Divine ecstasy from experincing the Divine first hand.
The deities of the first people are very different from what we envision now. And, if you read the writings of Celus, a later Pagan, a lot of Pagans were not polytheistic depsite all their myths. Celus claims that when one is educated and knows the Divine, then one realizes that there is only one God. He claims that only those on the outside - those who do not understand, think there is more then one God.
Interesting to say the least. Pythagoras had similiar beliefs after studing for many years with the Egyptians.

I have been looking up this sort of thing myself. I found a lot of useful e-books here:
http://www.zen63433.zen.co.uk/
Mostly about spirituality and magick. Including information on meditation and "The lower banishing ritual of the pentagram". All free to download, no popups etc. Happy reading!

At a guess? In some strictly oathbound Tradition that requires you to go through massive amounts of Outer Court training (or the equivalent) in order to be considered fit to learn the Mysteries.
Good luck with that...

Well, the oldest is sympathetic magic [look that up.]
The most sacred is Enochian. You can type that in to look it up as well. I'm in no way advocating Enochian, it's dangerous.
