No, I think that homework should not be eliminated as there are many students who do not grasp what is taught in school immediately, through homework they manage to grasp what was taught earlier. Doing revision through homework is a good thing provided here are no sites that do the homework for you. A student who is sincere will do the homework sincerely and thus get good knowledge and power, as knowledge is power.

As a middle school teacher for the past 12 years, I can attest to the FACT that the kids who take home assignments seriously are the highest achieving students as far as grades are concerned.
But, having said that, I do think that some teachers get carried away with assigning homework. For example, students can demonstrate mastery of most concepts by completing only 5 examples. This applies to ALL content areas. If most teachers applied this principle, then most kids would only have about 1 hour (or less) of hw per night. My personal philosophy is this: I build a practice assignment into every lesson plan, and I let my students know this. The more management I have to do, the less time for me to get to the practice assignment, the more likely it will be the kids have homework. So, that puts the responsibility for hw directly on them! I have found that this system works well and even helps kids feel empowered over their own education.

I have a kid who gets a's and b's on tests, and refuses to do homework. She is 12, has adhd. Insistance about homework creates situations in which she becomes oppositional and angry. I would much rather spend the time spending time, hanging out and having fun. Tonight she is working on a 4 foot paper mache dragon with my wife - don't know if she has homework or not. I however have brought home about 300 pages of material from work that needs to be closely reviewed by the 26th - ugh.

I think that study was conducted by wishful thinking students. Homework is what makes you learn. Sitting in class doesn't.
But homework shouldn't be excessive.
By the way, though, it is not uncommon in college to have far more than 3-4 hours of homework a day. Get ready for it.

Homework helps to reinforce concepts taught in class. If homework is stopped nationwide, our students will become less competitive with children from other countries. We're already lagging behind in many areas. Many students waste a lot of time doing useless activities such as playing video games. Let them use some of that time to study.

Well I'm a college graduate and I speak from experience. Homework may be a downer but in my opinion it helps you better with the materials that are being thaught in class. I know there been plently of times that I hated and cursed my teachers in highschool and profs in college. But you do learn from doing your homework.
Hope this helps a bit.

Not at all.
Very small kids may be exempt, but kids above grade 3 or age 8 must not.
Home works are important.kids discuss issues with families.
exam tests for kids should not be considered seriously.it has to be how they express in class(class activity is more important).
I don't think that study is conducted fairly.

Yes, homework is rather unnecessary for young children. It always seemed like just busywork to me. Then again, I didn't go to the best schools.
In high school homework is more useful, especially in college prep classes. Because in college, you have to do everything on your own time, and if you have good homework habits from high school then it is easier to get things done in college.
