Kind of like when your parents punished you for eating cookies before dinner by locking you in the cellar for an unlimited duration while coming in and whipping you periodically all the while saying, "I told you this would happen! But I still love you!" *whip*

Oh, is THAT why. I thought it was because he was a sadistic SOB who gets off on watching people suffer. Like when his son was nailed to a cross and he just stood back and watched.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Sbd deacon: He won't torture us by sending us to heaven, just by burning in a lake of fire for all eternity? Oh, that makes perfect sense.....

You are soooooo far off from the truth, man. Sit down with your bible (hopefully not the KJV) and study it carefully. God always has a purpose based on love when he does something. What part of His will is accomplished by torturing someone with no end in sight and no lesson to be learned? What would all that pain be for? To what end? No, the KJV translated 3 different words into "hell", but what hell really is is permanent death. If you want to do things God's way, he gives you eternal life. If not, you get your standard 80 or so years and then you're done- No harm, no foul, "spin reel"! BTW, if your parents were that rough on you for cookies then I pity you!

It sounds as though you still perceive reality from the perspective of a small, helpless and vulnerable child. Your projection of the child's omnipresent fear of punishment onto something as abstract as the concept of a Supreme Being strongly suggests a certain infantilism that you have failed to outgrow or overcome. I'm sorry your parents were so prone to negative conditioning, but I do think you should get over it and get on with your life. Meanwhile, you are completely unsuited to address any complex issue, still less an abstract conception.

I think it is because God left a bunch of robed egotistical thugs in place to do his dirty work, and when he left to administer the affairs on Altair 6, they decided they'd throw away the real instructions, and just do what they felt like doing, thus the dungeons, whipping, Inquisition, etc., etc.,....

Right, that is irony if I've ever heard it.

"God will send you to everlasting pain and torture because He loves you"

Any god worth praying to would not "torture" people. And you wonder why we don't believe in your religion and call you illogical and brainwashed!

Sounds like the god from the book of lies.
But i am not an atheist, i am a Wiccan, i do not believe in hell.
So how can a imaginary god send me to a place that does not exist??

That makes no sense whatsoever. Why would a loving "father figure" want to send his "children" to everlasting pain and torture? And, more importantly, why would you let yourself be brainwashed by these irrational beliefs?

I guess your idea of parenting was garnered from the Old Testament. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Or was that spare the child and prod the soil.

So according to you we should believe because of fear. Where is this free will crap in that. Trying to win people over to your side by saying it's better safe than sorry isn't going to work.
